Requisition Summary

We are seeking a Benchmarking Engineer to join PACCAR’s Teardown and Benchmarking Center, where competitive insight is translated into real product and cost decisions. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, purchasing, and strategy, leading hands-on teardown benchmarking and cost analysis to identify opportunities that directly influence product design, supplier strategy, and overall vehicle competitiveness.

You will work across next-generation and current production platforms, building clean-sheet cost models, challenging supplier assumptions, and identifying alternative manufacturing and design approaches. This role provides direct exposure to cross-functional decision-making and plays an active role in supplier discussions and cost evaluations, helping translate analysis into actionable outcomes.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Lead teardown and benchmarking activities to analyze competitor products, subsystems, and components, generating actionable cost, design, and manufacturing insights.
  • Perform detailed cost analysis using Clean Sheet, LPPs, VA/VE, and other MCE tools to establish should-cost models and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Partner directly with Purchasing in supplier meetings and negotiations, providing data-driven insights to challenge quotations and achieve target costs.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes, including piece price and capital investment assumptions, ensuring alignment with cost targets and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Develop cost models for components and systems, including tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes across both PACCAR and supplier operations.
  • Analyze current supplier manufacturing processes and conduct feasibility studies on alternative production methods to improve cost, quality, and efficiency.
  • Support new product development and innovation initiatives by contributing cost insights, feasibility assessments, and business case evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Engineering, Product Development, Product Planning, Six Sigma/Benchmarking, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to drive cross-functional alignment and results.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to support supplier engagement, benchmarking activities, and cross-site collaboration.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree required; (preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineer or comparable).
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in automotive or commercial vehicle industries.
  • Knowledge of different manufacturing processes commonly used in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry and its related suppliers.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with ability to convey complex cost and technical concepts to cross-functional and supplier audiences.
  • Continuous improvement mindset; Six Sigma or similar training/certification preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to develop accurate cost estimates from limited or incomplete technical data.
  • Automotive/Commercial Vehicle experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as required.
