Job description

Assistant Project Manager, Power Systems

Syracuse, NY | Toronto, ON | Hybrid

Are you an emerging engineering professional looking to expand beyond purely technical work into project leadership? Do you want to develop your career at the intersection of power systems engineering and project delivery? Are you energized by working on some of the most significant energy infrastructure projects being built in the US today?

If this sounds like you, or you're curious to learn more, then this role could be the perfect opportunity. Join our Power Systems Department as our new Assistant Project Manager and work with us to close the gap to a sustainable future.

You will be part of an elite team of power system engineers and play a pivotal role in delivering advanced solutions for a wide variety of clients, including energy-intensive industries like semiconductor manufacturing, municipal entities, data center mega campuses, and pioneers in renewable energy. With our substantial growth, seize the opportunity to shape our strategy and contribute to our agile team's rich pipeline of projects.

With growth horizons in cutting-edge domains like HVDC, solar photovoltaics, and offshore wind, our energetic and inventive team, bolstered by global specialists, is committed to advancing Ramboll's reach across the US, notably in states championing progressive climate objectives and sustainability measures. At the heart of our mission is the conviction that electricity is the cornerstone of the green transition toward a carbon-neutral future. Join us in our unwavering pursuit to realize this vision.

As our new Assistant Project Manager, you will work closely with senior Project Managers and technical leads to support the planning, execution, and delivery of power systems engineering projects across our growing portfolio. This is a role for someone who is technically grounded in electrical engineering, eager to grow into project ownership, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

You will gain direct exposure to project management fundamentals, client relationship management, and multi-disciplinary coordination, all within the context of meaningful infrastructure projects spanning substation design, large-scale renewables, and grid interconnection.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Assist Project Managers in developing, tracking, and updating project plans, schedules, and budgets across active engagements
  • Coordinate project activities across disciplines, ensuring deliverables are documented, tracked, and completed on time
  • Monitor project progress against milestones and financial targets, flagging issues early and supporting resolution with the Project Manager
  • Liaise with clients, subconsultants, and internal technical staff to gather information and keep project objectives aligned with client expectations
  • Support preparation of project reports, meeting minutes, status updates, and client presentations
  • Assist in the management of project resources, including labor planning and equipment procurement coordination
  • Conduct risk assessments and assist in the development and tracking of mitigation strategies
  • Ensure compliance with Ramboll QA/QC procedures and applicable industry standards throughout project execution
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation and fee estimation
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment that values technical excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement

From the moment you start at Ramboll, we will support your personal and professional development so that you can continue to grow with the company. While we look forward to supporting your continued learning and development, for this role we have identified some qualifications, skills, and capabilities that will set you up for success.

These include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a power systems or electrical engineering role, with exposure to project-based work preferred
  • Working knowledge of power systems engineering concepts, including substation design, generation interconnection, or transmission planning
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface professionally with clients and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams); experience with project management tools such as MS Project is a plus
  • PMP certification or active pursuit of PMP is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take initiative when needed
