The Springfield College Department of Occupational Therapy invites applications for the position of Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Assistant/Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy. This is a full-time, twelve-month program track faculty appointment that will begin in August 2026.

Housed in the School of Health Sciences, the Department of Occupational Therapy offers a 5.5 year combined baccalaureate and master’s program, a 6 year combined baccalaureate and OTD program, and additional entry points into the MSOT and OTD program for post-baccalaureate students. The MSOT and OTD programs are fully accredited by ACOTE. All full-time faculty teach across the baccalaureate, MSOT, and OTD programs. The mission of the Occupational Therapy Department is to prepare professionals for leadership in the use of human occupation to promote people’s participation in meaningful life roles and activities.

In addition to occupational therapy, the School of Health Sciences includes programs in physician assistant studies, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, public health, social work, and health science. The school is housed in the spectacular new , with stellar facilities, including an interprofessional simulation suite featuring high-fidelity simulation and standardized participant programming; a maker space enabling a vast array of creative projects supporting health and wellness; an activities of daily living suite to promote real-life applications of rehabilitation practices; a spacious sunlit human anatomy lab; and technology-supported classrooms and conference rooms. Interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, engaged student learning, as well as global, intergenerational, and multicultural perspectives are priorities of the School.

Responsibilities

The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator will have a mix of typical credit-bearing teaching load and administrative release time to coordinate fieldwork programming, placements and support for students in the MSOT and OTD programs, and their fieldwork educators across 12 months. The AFWC is also responsible for compliance with the ACOTE fieldwork standards (section C.1.0). The teaching load and the administrative reassigned time will be the equivalent of a full-time faculty teaching load of 36 credits per year.

In addition, the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator will have primary responsibilities that include teaching and advising, as well as participating in scholarly endeavors and providing service within the College and community. Program faculty blend classroom and experiential learning by integrating field- or community-based experiences cross the curriculum, consistent with Springfield College’s mission and renowned commitment to service learning and community engagement. Teaching content will be determined based on candidate experience and departmental needs.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree by position start date, initial certification as an occupational therapist, and be licensed or eligible for OT licensure in Massachusetts. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of documented experience as an occupational therapist.

Professional experience as a fieldwork educator or documentation of training in the roles and responsibilities of a fieldwork educator will strengthen the application. Successful candidates will have strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills to work effectively with students, faculty, fieldwork educators, and community partners. The AFWC monitors student progress, supports success through mentorship and problem-solving, and manages program data, policies, accreditation, and curriculum to ensure continuous quality and innovation.
