Job description

Residential Manager

The Residential Manager is responsible for the overall operation, oversight, and management of assigned residential homes and staff supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centered services while maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive environment that promotes dignity, independence, community inclusion, and personal growth.

The Residential Manager provides direct supervision, coaching, and accountability for Lead Staff and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), ensuring compliance with agency policies, state regulations, and Individual Support Plans (ISPs). This role serves as a leader and role model by fostering positive staff development, maintaining operational excellence, and demonstrating a commitment to RHD's core values.

Leadership and Staff Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, and performance management for residential staff.
  • Conduct regular staff supervision meetings and provide ongoing training and professional development.
  • Address performance concerns, document corrective actions, and develop improvement plans when necessary.
  • Model professional behavior, teamwork, and person-centered service delivery.
  • Maintain staffing schedules and oversee coverage for call-outs, vacations, absences, and open shifts.
  • Participate in interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff members.

Residential Program Oversight

  • Ensure the health, safety, welfare, and rights of all individuals receiving services.
  • Monitor residential operations to ensure compliance with licensing requirements, agency policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning home environment.
  • Oversee household operations, including staffing, budgeting, purchasing, transportation, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate and monitor monthly recreational, social, and community-based activities for individuals served.
  • Support individuals in achieving outcomes identified in their ISPs and behavioral support plans.

Consumer Care and Support

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, ISP meetings, medical appointments, and planning sessions as required.
  • Ensure staff implement individual support plans, behavioral supports, and clinical recommendations appropriately.
  • Monitor the quality of services provided and address concerns promptly.
  • Advocate for individuals' needs and preferences while promoting independence and empowerment.

Health, Safety, and Incident Management

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and crisis situations.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported, documented, and submitted according to agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Report medical concerns immediately to agency leadership and nursing personnel, as appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of risk management practices and implement preventive measures to ensure individual and staff safety.

Financial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and reconcile site budgets, household funds, consumer funds, and related expenditures.
  • Review and approve required documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure timely completion of documentation including:
    • Daily logs
    • Medication administration records
    • Incident reports
    • Progress notes
    • Vehicle logs
    • Consumer fund records
    • Inventory records
    • Assessments and regulatory documentation
  • Submit reports and documentation according to agency timelines and standards.

Facility and Vehicle Management

  • Oversee maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance of residential sites.
  • Monitor agency vehicles to ensure safe operation, proper maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Report facility and vehicle issues promptly and coordinate corrective action.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Support special projects and agency initiatives as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and organizational goals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Behavioral Health, Mental Health, or Substance Use Recovery populations.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email, electronic documentation, scheduling, and timekeeping systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulations, agency policies, and person-centered practices.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required background clearances and employment screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience in residential or community-based services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and staff development skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral support practices, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong documentation and record-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email systems, and electronic health documentation platforms.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in both office and community-based residential settings.
  • Frequent travel to residential sites and participant homes is required.
  • Exposure to a variety of environmental conditions, including:
    • Loud noise
    • Dust and fumes
    • Extreme temperatures
    • Wet or humid conditions
    • Mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards
    • Confined spaces
  • May be exposed to challenging participant behaviors and crisis situations.

Lifting Requirements

Medium Work

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
