Family Operations Manager & Health Support Specialist

Location: Baton Rouge, LA 70808

Employment Type: Part-time (20-25 hours/week)

Proposed Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: $20-25/hour based on experience

Requirements:

  • Able to maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Comfortable with (or openness to learning) medical management for Type 1 diabetes
  • Willingness to work with potential future pets (small dogs)

Proposed Weekly Schedule (Monday-Thursday):

  • Two long days: 12:00 PM 7:00 PM (Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday alternating)
  • The other two days would be shorter days: 12:00 PM 3:00 PM
  • Flexibility for morning coverage during parent's travel (~10 trips per year)
  • Potential for more hours for projects and/or business help as the role evolves

About Our Family:

We are a busy and close-knit family of five, balancing careers and the complexities of raising three boys (ages 10, 8 and 2.5). Both parents have demanding jobs (as a company founder and a physician), which makes it difficult to maintain the balance we strive for at home.

One partner works week-on-week-off shifts and the other travels roughly 10 times per year, so we need someone who can work in tandem with us when we're home, but also step up and handle the household with ease. The ideal candidate will become an integral part of our family's daily rhythm, helping to manage the household, support the kids, and keep things running smoothly. We would love someone who can help add routine, structure, and calmnessespecially in the face of our busy schedules.

Of special note is that two of our kids have Type 1 diabetes, which requires careful management, including carb counting and insulin administration. You'll score major bonus points if you have a medical background, but we're also open to someone who is willing to be trained to help the boys manage the ins and outs of this daily.

We're seeking someone who will not only provide reliable care but who will also become a long-term partner in managing the evolving needs of our family. This isn't just a jobit's an opportunity to join us as we grow and navigate this unique season in our lives. Our family's mission is simple: to create a calm, loving, and organized home that allows us to focus on each other, despite the daily chaos.

Who We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate is someone who is warm, proactive, and eager to engage with our children in a meaningful way. You'll be an essential part of our household, often working directly alongside one parent to support both the children's needs and the household tasks. Because the dynamic here is ever-evolving, being adaptable and responsive to change is key.

We are looking for someone who is not only reliable and responsible but also comfortable managing the medical needs of children with Type 1 diabetes, including administering insulin (after training) and learning carb counting. You'll be expected to step in and support homework time, especially with our oldest child, who needs patient, firm support. If you're able to confidently manage multiple moving partswhether it's meal prep, keeping the house organized, or assisting with medical needsthis position will feel like a natural fit.

A long-term commitment is essential to ussomeone who is invested in our family's success, who wants to grow with us, and who is comfortable jumping right into the day-to-day as a trusted partner. Your presence and attention to detail will ensure our kids feel secure and well-supported, while also enabling us to maintain a more organized household. You will need to be comfortable with a hands-on role and ready to work closely with us on everything from logistics to meal planning. Your ability to balance responsibility with a warm, engaging presence will make you an invaluable asset to our family.

You'll also be expected to evolve with uswhether it's adjusting to changes in the kids' schedules, changing medical needs, or supporting the family when one parent is traveling. We need someone who's not just here to do a job, but who truly wants to be a part of our family's journey, long-term.

Key Responsibilities:

This role focuses on keeping the household running smoothly day to day, with a few core priorities that anchor the work. Other responsibilities support the overall flow of the home and are handled as time allows or on an as-needed basis. We care more about the right things getting done not checking all the boxes.

Daily Must-Haves (Monday-Thursday priorities):

  • Prepare 2-3 healthy, whole-food-forward dinners for the week
  • Package leftovers for parents to repurpose as lunches during the week
  • Manage fridge inventory and cleanliness
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness post meal prep
  • Pick the kids up from daycare and school
  • Tag-team after-school hours, helping with homework, dinner prep and managing the kids until the youngest child's bedtime
  • Assist with smaller, ongoing tasks, such as laundry, errands, maintaining home systems
  • Daily sweep of the house to reset main living spaces (load/unload dishwasher, clear counters and wipe surfaces, vacuum high-traffic areas)

The above core responsibilities come first, but once handled, we welcome support in other areas as time allows and needs arise, including:

Household Management & Organization:

  • Create, maintain household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, toys)
  • Reset and tidy rooms daily; maintain overall neatness, ensure home is prepped for bi-weekly cleaning services
  • Conduct seasonal swaps (boys' clothing, holiday decor)
  • Prepare and coordinate donation drop offs and pick ups
  • Assist with unpacking after travel
  • Load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, vacuum high traffic areas
  • Maintain indoor plants

Inventory Management & Errands:

  • Track and restock pantry, toiletries, household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Coordinate and manage household orders (Amazon)
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, gift shopping

Meal Planning & Preparation:

  • Plan and prep 2-3 dinners a week (we will provide initial recipes or meal ideas - can be crock pot meals, easy meals made in advance and heated up on a plate; no pork)
  • Clean out the fridge on a regular basis, and put leftovers in storage containers
  • Pack summer camp lunches
  • Prep and portion fruit for the boys' snacks
  • Plan and prep healthy meals/snacks for adults and/or kids
  • Batch cook meals for breakfast
  • Shop for groceries and meal-related items
  • Open to learning about working with Type I diabetes
  • Clean kitchen post-prep and manage kitchen tidiness

Laundry & Linen Care:

  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (e.g., clothing, bedding, towels)
  • Prep for cleaners by taking dirty sheets off and pulling out clean sheets
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies
  • Handle special care for delicates or uniforms

Vehicle Management:

  • Schedule and oversee maintenance, oil changes, and inspections
  • Ensure vehicles are fueled, cleaned, and organized
  • Track registration, insurance, and service schedules

Family Support & Child Assistance:

  • Openness to providing back-up childcare on sick days, absences, etc.
  • Must be available for after-school pickups, and open to school
