This position is being posted in advance and is not expected to begin until mid- to late fourth quarter, allowing time for recruitment, transition, and training.
About the Library The Kenton County Public Library serves as a vital community resource, offering access to information, technology, and lifelong learning opportunities.
With a strong commitment to public service and innovation, the Library is recognized as a leading institution in the region.
As a cornerstone of the Northern Kentucky community, our Library is more than books -- we are a vibrant, innovative institution dedicated to learning, connection, and inclusion.
This is your opportunity to help shape an organization where culture, equity, community engagement and employee development are top priorities.
Join a Team that Values People, Community, and Connection We're looking for a Librarian I, Outreach who thrives on meeting people right where they are to connect them to the library in meaningful, practical ways.
This role is centered on coordination, consistency, and community relationships: organizing outreach services for schools, caregivers, and homebound patrons while ensuring programs are delivered smoothly, accessibly, and with care.
If you enjoy balancing logistics with people-focused work and take pride in making services reliable and impactful, this is a great opportunity to contribute to a team dedicated to expanding access across Kenton County.
What You'll Do Coordinate and deliver outreach services across School Services, Homebound Services, Racing to Read, and other initiatives.
Schedule and facilitate engaging in-person and virtual programs at schools, childcare centers, assisted living facilities, and community locations.
Support implementation of system-wide outreach programs, events, library visits, field trips, and family engagement activities.
Serve as a liaison to schools, childcare providers, assisted living staff, and community partners to coordinate services and schedules.
Deliver school visits (infant through 12th grade), promoting library programs with an emphasis on early literacy and Summer Reading Celebration.
Prepare and present educational materials, resources, and programming for students, educators, and community audiences.
Provide personalized library services to homebound patrons, including materials delivery, reader's advisory, and basic reference support.
Maintain outreach schedules, collections (including large print and special formats), and program materials to ensure timely and effective service.
Collaborate with internal teams (Programs, Public Services, IT, PR) to implement outreach initiatives and expand service access.
Create and maintain outreach resources, including print materials, digital content, and online sign-up and information pages.
Respond to outreach inquiries and support onboarding, training, and continuous improvement of outreach services and procedures.
Perform other job-related tasks as needed to support department operations.
What We're Looking For · An adaptable team member who demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities and community needs.
· A curious learner who is comfortable adopting and effectively using new technologies.
· An outreach-focused professional who is passionate about connecting with the community, building partnerships, and extending library services beyond traditional spaces.
· A strong communicator who conveys information clearly and builds positive, productive relationships with coworkers, patrons, community organizations, and partners.
· A service-oriented individual who is patient, approachable, and proactive in engaging with patrons in the library and throughout the community.
· A community-minded team member with knowledge of library services and resources.
Qualifications Required · MLS holder or currently pursuing MLS, with degree completion expected within 6 months · Demonstrated organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
· Demonstrated customer-service experience, patience under pressure, and comfort interacting with a wide range of patrons.
· Experience collaborating with schools, childcare providers, educators, assisted living staff, and community partners.
· Ability to obtain and maintain certification from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.
· Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
· Ability to operate and park a 28-foot outreach vehicle (RV truck) and other library vehicles following training.
· Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 100 lbs., and occasional reaching, bending, and kneeling.
