Job description

Join the Team at Vancer

At Vancer, we don't just repair equipment. We design and build innovative maintenance-of-way (MOW) equipment that helps Class I railroads safely maintain thousands of miles of track across North America.

If you're a mechanically minded technician who enjoys solving complex problems, building custom equipment, and seeing your work make an impact, this is the opportunity for you.

If you have questions before applying, contact our Recruiting Team at recruiting@vancer.com or 402-891-7555.

What You'll Do

As a Diesel Technician, you'll help build, troubleshoot, and improve custom railroad equipment from the ground up. Every project is different, giving you the opportunity to use your mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication skills to create one-of-a-kind solutions for our customers.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and build hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems for custom railroad equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment using diagnostic software, Service Information Systems (SIS), and hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Test, inspect, and fine-tune new and rebuilt equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Research and source components needed for repairs and new equipment development.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and other departments to deliver innovative customer solutions.
  • Mentor and support fellow technicians with troubleshooting and technical expertise.
  • Create and maintain assembly procedures, parts documentation, hydraulic and electrical schematics, and service information.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and likes solving challenging mechanical problems.

Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:

  • Diesel engines
  • Hydraulics
  • Electrical systems
  • Mechanical troubleshooting
  • Heavy equipment or railroad equipment
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Reading hydraulic or electrical schematics

.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At Vancer, you'll work on custom-built equipment, not repetitive production work. Every project brings new challenges, opportunities to learn, and the satisfaction of building equipment that serves customers across the railroad industry.

Benefits Include

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • HSA and FSA Options
  • Paid Vacation and Holidays
  • 401(k) with Profit Sharing
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • In-House Technical Training
  • Paid Military Leave
  • Safety Glasses and Boot Program
