Job description
Lead Project Scheduler (Oracle Primavera P6)

100% Remote | Contract Opportunity | $77–84/hr

Position Overview

A leading organization in the construction and mission-critical infrastructure space is seeking an experienced Lead Project Scheduler to serve as the scheduling subject matter expert for complex, large-scale projects.

This is not a traditional project controls or schedule maintenance role. We are looking for a scheduling professional who can build sophisticated Primavera P6 schedules from the ground up, perform advanced critical path analysis, diagnose schedule performance issues, develop recovery plans, and provide strategic recommendations that directly impact project execution and delivery.

The successful candidate will partner closely with project managers, construction leadership, engineering teams, operations personnel, and executive stakeholders to ensure schedules accurately reflect project scope, sequencing, constraints, resource requirements, and delivery objectives.

If you are the person others turn to when a project falls behind schedule or when a complex project schedule needs to be built from scratch, we'd like to hear from you.

What Success Looks Like

The ideal candidate can confidently demonstrate:

  • Building a complete Oracle Primavera P6 schedule from a blank project file
  • Developing detailed Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
  • Establishing and managing project critical path activities
  • Performing float analysis and schedule health assessments
  • Diagnosing schedule slippage and identifying root causes
  • Developing practical schedule recovery plans
  • Optimizing schedules through logic adjustments and resource planning
  • Communicating schedule risks and recommendations to executive-level stakeholders

This individual will function as a trusted advisor and scheduling expert who influences project decisions and drives successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Schedule Development & Management

  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules utilizing Oracle Primavera P6
  • Build logic-driven schedules from project scope, stakeholder requirements, milestone commitments, and WBS structures
  • Establish and manage project baselines
  • Define activity sequencing, calendars, logic ties, constraints, and relationships
  • Create and maintain Level 3 and Level 4 schedules for complex projects
  • Ensure schedule integrity throughout the project lifecycle

Critical Path & Schedule Analysis

  • Identify and continuously monitor critical path activities
  • Perform total float and free float analysis
  • Conduct schedule variance analysis and performance evaluations
  • Develop mitigation strategies for schedule risks
  • Perform delay analysis and identify schedule impacts
  • Execute what-if scenario planning and forecasting activities

Recovery Planning & Schedule Optimization

  • Develop recovery schedules when projects experience delays
  • Recommend fast-tracking, resequencing, and schedule compression strategies
  • Analyze project bottlenecks and workflow constraints
  • Support implementation of corrective action plans
  • Partner with project teams to improve delivery timelines and execution performance

Reporting & Executive Communication

  • Develop schedule dashboards, KPI reports, executive summaries, and presentations
  • Communicate project forecasts, risks, schedule health, and recovery strategies
  • Present findings and recommendations to project leadership and executive stakeholders
  • Support project reviews, status meetings, and strategic planning sessions

Project Controls & Governance

  • Conduct schedule quality reviews and health assessments
  • Perform logic validation and schedule audits
  • Ensure compliance with scheduling standards and best practices
  • Support project risk management initiatives
  • Mentor junior schedulers and project controls personnel

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of project scheduling and planning experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on Oracle Primavera P6 experience
  • Proven experience building and managing complex project schedules from scratch
  • Strong understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling
  • Experience supporting large-scale construction, infrastructure, engineering, industrial, manufacturing, energy, capital, or mission-critical projects
  • Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6 scheduling and reporting functionality

Required Technical Skills

Candidates should possess demonstrable expertise in:

  • Oracle Primavera P6
  • Critical Path Methodology (CPM)
  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Development

  • Power BI Reporting
  • Advanced Excel Analytics

Preferred certifications include:

  • PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)

A hands-on Primavera P6 walkthrough where candidates will demonstrate their ability to:

  • Build schedules from scratch

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are more than a scheduler—you are a strategic project planning expert. You understand how schedules drive project outcomes, can confidently challenge assumptions, identify risks before they become problems, and provide actionable recommendations that improve delivery performance.

If you've led scheduling efforts for large construction, infrastructure, mission-critical, industrial, engineering, or data center projects and thrive in highly technical planning environments, we'd love to connect with you.
