Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides supervision, guidance, and support to counselors in both the Substance Use Prevention Program (SUPP), and the Drug and Alcohol Intervention Services for Youth (DAISY) programs.
  • Participates in interviews, hiring, and evaluation of employees.
  • Facilitates regular supervision individually and in group settings with employees.
  • Participates in contracted partner meetings, such as probation department staff and school site/district staff.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with school personnel, probation department, and other collaborating agencies leads.
  • Researches and stays up to date on substance use trends, and conducts drug and alcohol training sessions/presentations.
  • Facilitates and regularly updates curricula such as Vape Offense Workshop, and Youth Alternatives to Violence (YATV), The Seven Challenges, and The Brief Challenges.
  • Maintains fidelity binder for The Seven Challenges and leads quarterly supervision to ensure counselors maintain their fidelity binders and requirements.
  • Coordinates and participates in prevention activities at the school and/or in the community.
  • Assists and supports Drug Resource Specialists, maintaining effective and open communication with them.
  • Assists and supports the Program Officer on a variety of projects, maintaining effective and open communication.
  • Provides case management and advocacy.
  • Offers information and referrals to community resources.
  • Collaborates with other agencies.
  • Generates, collects, and prepares data/reports for agency contractor use/evaluation.
  • Promotes harm reduction and drug-free choices, healthy relationships, and positive social-emotional connections.
  • Participates in agency outreach and marketing efforts.
  • Performs administrative functions as delegated by the Program Officer.
  • Schedules and facilitates training for new counselors.
  • Maintains and updates master forms on Google Drive.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The Program Coordinator position requires extensive knowledge of leadership, substance abuse prevention, experience working with youth, families and schools, counseling, case management, computer competence (Microsoft Office), organizational, administrative, planning, and excellent written and verbal skills. The candidate must be able to work independently and as member of team. The candidate must also be able to work closely with school and probation staff while staying connected to CHS and the supervisor to successfully implement program objectives and develop strong, healthy, ongoing relationships with staff, clients, and partnering agencies.

Candidates for this position must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social. Work and three years related work and leadership experience. The equivalent combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the above. Experience in program development is highly desired. Preference will be given to bilingual/biliterate/bi-cultural candidates.

  • California driver’s license is required.
  • Auto insurance is required.
  • CPR/First Aid is required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone, computer, calculator and office machines at required speed and accuracy
  • Vision sufficient to read handwritten and printed materials and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations in the normal range
  • Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distances on the telephone and addressing groups
  • Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps and to respond to emergency situations
  • Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift, carry, push and/or pull 40 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull more than 40 pounds with assistance


Salary $64,840 – $78,813/annually D.O.E, additional 5% bilingual stipend
