Job descriptionJob Description Job Title Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Step Down Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse for a contract assignment within the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Step Down at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. This role is crucial for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals requiring close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions, but who do not meet the criteria for intensive care. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse patient population, often transitioning from critical care or requiring specialized observation for various medical and surgical conditions. This includes continuous assessment, medication administration, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a smooth continuum of care. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, neurological status, cardiac rhythm, and respiratory function. Administer medications safely and accurately, including IV drips, and monitor for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic parameters, and laboratory results, escalating concerns as appropriate. Manage and maintain various medical devices, including telemetry monitors, IV pumps, and oxygen delivery systems. Provide wound care, ostomy care, and other specialized nursing interventions as required. Educate patients and their families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medication regimens, and discharge instructions. Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records (EHR) documentation. Respond effectively to emergent situations, initiating appropriate interventions and collaborating with the rapid response team. Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. Required Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Step Down Unit, or similar acute care setting. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. Preferred Qualifications Not specified. Skills & Competencies Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic monitoring. Strong IV insertion and phlebotomy skills. Competence in medication administration, including titratable drips.
