Job description

Company Description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking a Software Engineer with at least 5 years of experience to join Professional Education and Program Services (PEPS) at Intuitive. The ideal candidate will drive technical strategy, build scalable cloud-native infrastructure, and own complex systems end-to-end using our React/TypeScript, Node.js, and Python stack on AWS and GCP. You will establish SDLC best practices, build and integrate AI/LLM-powered automation solutions, and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams.

Essential Job Duties

  • Drive technical strategy, architectural decisions, and long-term vision for PEPS applications and the broader Intuitive engineering organization.

  • Own large-scale systems and multiple interconnected components, ensuring alignment and integration across departments.

  • Build and manage cloud-native infrastructure on AWS and GCP, leveraging Kubernetes and Docker to support PEPS application scalability and reliability requirements.

  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable systems architecture with strong focus on reliability and performance.

  • Establish and evolve CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows to accelerate platform delivery velocity and operational stability.

  • Define and implement SDLC best practices, standardized workflows, code reviews, and quality assurance protocols.

  • Develop, migrate, and maintain high-performance web applications using React, TypeScript, and Node.js, unifying existing Intuitive tools into the PEPS platform.

  • Troubleshoot, test, and optimize core product software, applications, and databases to ensure stability and efficiency.

  • Act as technical lead on major cross-functional initiatives, balancing deep technical expertise with system-level strategy.

  • Mentor developers, facilitate technical discussions, and translate complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficient in front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript with deep expertise in React (primary UI framework)

  • Strong hands-on experience with Node.js for back-end services; experience building RESTful and event-driven APIs in a microservices architecture

  • Experience with database systems (SQL and NoSQL), role-based access control, and user session management

  • Solid expertise in AWS and GCP, including managed services (ECS/EKS, Lambda, Cloud Run) and multi-cloud deployment patterns

  • Deep understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling; experience integrating AI/LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent) and building AI-assisted workflows

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Python for scripting, data pipelines, or ML model integration

  • Mobile development experience (React Native, iOS, or Android)

  • Hands-on experience building AI/ML-powered software products, including LLM API integration, prompt engineering, or embedding ML models into production applications

Required Education and Training (As applicable - Specific education and training that an individual must possess in order to successfully perform in job)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in web application development.
