Surgical Technologist Job Description Job Title Surgical Technologist Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist for a 13-week contract assignment in a busy, multi-specialty Operating Room in Chicago, Illinois. This role is critical in supporting surgical teams across a diverse range of procedures, including open heart, multiple medical, and orthopedic surgeries. The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing and maintaining the sterile field, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring patient safety throughout complex surgical cases. This is a high-volume environment requiring adaptability and strong clinical acumen. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical equipment according to established protocols. Anticipate surgeon's needs and provide appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures. Assist with patient positioning, transportation, and preparation for surgery. Ensure proper handling, labeling, and disposition of specimens. Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient operating room environment. Participate in surgical counts and instrument sterilization processes. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Surgical Technologist in a busy Operating Room setting. Demonstrated experience with open heart, multiple medical, and orthopedic surgical cases. Proficiency with EPIC EMR system. Preferred Qualifications Not specified. Skills & Competencies Clinical Skills: Expert knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, sterile processing, and patient safety protocols. Soft Skills: Exceptional adaptability, strong communication, effective teamwork, critical thinking, and the ability to perform under pressure in a high-volume environment. Shift Details Shift Type: AM Shift Duration: 12.5 hours Days per week: 3 days per week Start Time: 6:30 AM End Time: 7:00 PM Note: Workday hours may extend dependent on caseload, ensuring coverage until 7:00 PM. Call Requirements: One night every two weeks, one weekend every six weeks. All agency staff are required to take call. Weekend Rotation: Rotating weekends. Holiday Rotation: Rotating holidays.
