What’s a typical day as Interim Controller? You’ll be:
- Overseeing and performing day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and month-end close.
- Supervising and mentoring one Accountant while serving as the primary financial leader for the U.S. operation.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Developing budgets, forecasts, financial models, and cash flow projections to support business planning.
- Analyzing financial performance and providing recommendations to leadership regarding trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Establishing and improving accounting processes, financial controls, and reporting procedures to support a growing organization.
- Coordinating with external accounting, payroll, tax, audit, and banking partners.
- Supporting annual audits and financial reporting requirements.
- Overseeing administration of the company’s 401(k) plan and ensuring compliance activities are completed.
- Partnering with executive leadership to provide actionable financial insights and support strategic decision-making.
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and strengthen financial processes.
This job might be an outstanding fit if you:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Have 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including Controller or Accounting Manager capacity.
- Possess strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Are experienced with month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Have previous supervisory experience; QuickBooks experience strongly preferred.
- Have experience working in a startup, small company, or high-growth environment—biotech, life sciences, or healthcare industry experience is a plus.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across domestic and international teams.
- Are a self-directed, hands-on professional comfortable balancing strategic financial leadership with day-to-day accounting responsibilities.
- Excel in fast-paced environments and can cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
