By joining ASI, you become an integral part of a team that is revolutionizing how the world moves, operates, and automates.The Role You'll be working on the Scythe M.52 commercial mower as a mechanical design engineer helping move the product to the next level. As the product gets into the hands of more customers, each generation needs to be more robust and more reliable than the last. You'll collaborate with various teams (EE, Firmware, Perception, Manufacturing, Test and Field) to build a deep understanding of product needs and bring those ideas to life. We expect you to be broadly experienced enough to see around corners and to thrive in a fast-paced, self-managed engineering environment. ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop mechanical parts, assemblies, and fixtures for the M.52 commercial mower. Own the mechanical side of electromechanical integration: electronics and PCB enclosures, heat management, custom battery packs, motors, cameras and sensors.Balance conflicting goals such as manufacturing/BOM cost, reliability and serviceability Manage mechanical requirements across teams - EE, Firmware, Perception, Manufacturing, Test, and Field all push on your design at once.Work directly with vendors to source off-the-shelf parts and develop custom components. We're a small team- the ability to build and maintain vendor relationships will be a critical part of this role.Work with Test to validate new hardware, and develop rapid life cycle and accelerated durability test methods.Create and maintain BOMs, and help develop and document processes for ECOs and product data management.Support the ramp to higher-volume production as the M.52 program scales.Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Master's Degree preferred.Qualifications5-7+ years Mechanical Engineering related experience.Experience designing complex electromechanical systems for unstructured environments, including heavy vibration, weather and water ingress, dust, and heat.Experience owning products through a full lifecycle - a 12-to-18-month design phase, qualification, production, and field maintenance - including diagnosing and correcting your own designs after they come back broken from customer use.Demonstrated ability to work across functions and negotiate competing mechanical requirements with other engineering teams.Proficiency in 3D CAD (Solidworks, OnShape, Creo, equivalent)Working knowledge of DFM across welding, machining, sheet metal, and other fabrication processes.Proficiency with drafting standards and GD&T.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Experience with enclosure design for electronics, including the trade-offs between environmental sealing and heat rejection.Background in battery pack integration, thermal management, or heatsink design.Ability to select fasteners for torque, vibration, and environmental conditions.Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with mounting cameras or sensors where alignment and stiffness are critical.Proficiency in designing and drafting cables and harnesses.Familiarity with PDM or PLM tooling, ECO processes, and BOM ownership.Experience with off-road, turf, agricultural, construction, or other outdoor mobile equipment.Experience mentoring or leading mechanical engineers.At Autonomous Solutions, Inc.
