Summary Our client is seeking an HVAC Engineer to provide engineering support for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems that ensure the reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of manufacturing and facility environments. This role supports utilities, facilities, maintenance, and capital projects while ensuring HVAC systems maintain the environmental conditions required for regulated manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have experience in HVAC system design, troubleshooting, commissioning, Building Automation Systems (BAS), and regulatory compliance within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated industries.
Responsibilities - Design, review, modify, and optimize HVAC systems, including Air Handling Units (AHUs), ductwork, heating, cooling, humidification, filtration, and airflow systems.
- Perform engineering calculations related to airflow, pressure, cooling/heating loads, and energy efficiency.
- Ensure HVAC systems comply with GMP, GEP, FDA, and internal engineering standards for controlled environments.
- Review and approve HVAC engineering drawings, specifications, change controls, and technical documentation.
- Support system commissioning, qualification, requalification, and validation activities.
- Troubleshoot HVAC system failures, deviations, and performance issues, including airflow imbalances and temperature or humidity fluctuations.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, quality, and engineering teams to resolve equipment and system issues.
- Support HVAC systems integrated with Building Automation Systems (BAS), including monitoring alarms, reviewing system trends, troubleshooting controls, and implementing automation changes.
- Lead or support capital projects, system upgrades, retrofits, facility expansions, and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, sustainability, airflow optimization, and heat recovery.
- Assist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, deviation investigations, and corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including SOPs, engineering standards, validation documents, and change control records.
- Provide technical support for permits, safety reviews, and engineering assessments.
- Support site utilities related to HVAC, chilled water, steam, and compressed air systems.
- Participate in on-call or off-hours support as required.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 3 to 8+ years of HVAC engineering experience supporting manufacturing or facility operations.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, operation, maintenance, and optimization.
- Experience with Air Handling Units (AHUs), cleanrooms, controlled environments, and airflow management.
- Experience supporting Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC controls.
- Understanding of HVAC commissioning, qualification, validation, and requalification processes.
- Knowledge of GMP, GEP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements applicable to manufacturing facilities.
- Experience supporting utilities including chilled water, steam, compressed air, and related facility systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause investigation skills.
- Experience managing engineering projects, capital improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with engineering documentation, Microsoft Office, and applicable engineering software.
