Java Developer

Job Summary

We are seeking a Java Developer for a direct hire opportunity in Buffalo, NY with a high-performance engineering team building secure, scalable, cloud-native software solutions. This role is ideal for a backend developer with 2 to 5 years of professional experience who is ready to move beyond routine application development and take ownership of complex systems, API-driven services, and mission-critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and relational databases.
- Build backend services supporting real-time applications, asynchronous workflows, and high-volume transactional systems.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions related to service decomposition, schema design, dependency management, and system monitoring.
- Optimize application performance through effective logging, caching, multithreading, exception handling, and troubleshooting practices.
- Collaborate with React developers, DevOps engineers, and QA teams to deliver secure, high-quality full-stack software solutions.
- Support production systems and travel to client locations throughout the United States and occasionally Canada for deployments, issue resolution, training, and client support.

Compensation and Benefits

- Direct hire opportunity.
- Salary range: $85,000 to $140,000 annually, based on experience, technical expertise, and overall qualifications.
- Location: Buffalo, NY 14202.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Design and develop backend Java applications using Spring Boot and REST API development.
- Build and support cloud-native services using AWS technologies such as S3, EC2, Lambda, ECS, and Secrets Manager.
- Maintain and enhance production applications, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and secure deployment support.
- Collaborate across engineering teams to deliver API-driven applications in Agile development environments.

- 2+ years of professional backend software development experience using Java and Spring Boot.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST API development, and relational databases, with PostgreSQL preferred.
- Experience working with AWS services such as S3, EC2, Lambda, ECS, and Secrets Manager.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and modular system architecture.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Agile development methodologies, code reviews, and technical documentation.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance production applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Must be able to successfully meet eligibility requirements and obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Candidates must have valid travel documentation and be able to travel throughout the United States and occasionally to Canada without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with message queues, event-driven architectures, pub/sub systems, or asynchronous processing frameworks.
- Experience with authentication and authorization technologies such as JWT and OAuth2.
- Experience with monitoring, observability, and logging tools such as Grafana and Micrometer.
- Full-stack development experience using React, Express, or other modern front-end technologies.
- Experience with cloud-native application design, distributed systems, and scalable backend platforms.
- Experience working in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, government, or defense.
