Job description

Emory Brain Health and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences are seeking a faculty psychologist to join their interdisciplinary Emory Comprehensive Headache Center team. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of headache care, research, and education within one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United States. Ideal candidates would have a background in health psychology, pain psychology, and/or specialized treatments for headaches. The candidate would conduct biopsychosocial assessments, develop tailored treatment plans, and provide a full range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions to help patients manage pain and stress and improve their quality of life. They also would engage in interprofessional research focused on the treatment of headaches and provide training and supervision to psychology and medical trainees about psychosocial assessments and interventions for patients with headaches.

Applicants should: (1) have a strong background in clinical health psychology and integrated care with medically ill populations; (2) have a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited graduate program, an APA accredited internship, and at least one-year supervised postdoctoral training; and (3) be licensed or license eligible in Georgia. Board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology is required within 7 years of starting this faculty position. In addition, the applicant must get certified in biofeedback within 3 years of starting this faculty appointment.

A successful candidate would demonstrate a robust foundation in the following:

  • Fundamental principles and practices of health psychology and pain psychology

  • Comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments of headaches and co-occurring psychological disorders

  • Evidence-based interventions (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness therapies) to reduce headache frequency, mitigate pain and its impact, improve functioning, and enhance quality of life

  • Biofeedback and/or neurofeedback therapy for headache (preferred, not required)

  • Evidence-based interventions for psychological disorders that co-occur with headaches (e.g., depression, anxiety, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, personality disorders, bipolar disorder)

  • Interprofessional teamwork and collaboration

This position offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and numerous opportunities for professional growth and development. Join us in making a difference in patients' lives with headache disorders and shaping the future of headache care.
