Job description

Litigation Resource Team Manager

Earthjustice is the nation's leading environmental law organization. We wield the power of law and the strength of partnership to protect people's health, preserve magnificent places and wildlife, advance clean energy, and combat climate change. We are here because the Earth needs a good lawyer. Driven by a passion for justice, inclusion, partnership, and excellence, our core values lead us to seek a broad range of perspectives and backgrounds to achieve our mission and maintain an inclusive environment where all staff are valued and respected.

The Litigation Resource Team Manager creates and leads a centralized team of litigation assistants and paralegals who provide litigation support across Earthjustice's regional and program offices. The Manager establishes and implements a triage process for litigation support requests and assigns work to the Resource Team accordingly. The members of the Resource Team will be embedded in certain regional and program offices, where they will provide dedicated litigation support while remaining available for surge support to the organization. The Manager also provides litigation support in cases and matters organization-wide when programs/offices need additional capacity to meet filing deadlines, manage large document reviews, or support trials, hearings, and other high-intensity litigation phases.

The Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Legal Training and Development to identify, create, and deliver training that strengthens litigation support capabilities across Earthjustice. The Manager coordinates with litigation leadership, regional and programmatic offices, and other departments across the organization to ensure that centralized support is efficient, equitable, and consistent quality. The Manager reports to the Sr. Program Manager of the Litigation Practice team.

The Litigation Resource Team Manager may work hybrid from the following locations: Preference for Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, or Washington, DC, and open to other Earthjustice offices.

  • Recruit and maintain a vetted pool of contract paralegals to support longer-term needs in partnership with HR Recruitment.

Organizational Development and Training (20%)

  • Delegate and oversee legal support work across team assignments.
  • Partner with dedicated office/programs to gather and share feedback on team members' work.
  • Uphold Earthjustice's mission and values by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, providing clear direction and feedback, and promoting a culture of learning for all team members.
  • Oversee relevant administrative, budgeting, and personnel management of direct reports, ensuring that all organizational policies and standards are met.
