Quality Assurance Specialist
This role oversees the development, improvement, and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) while working closely with Quality Assurance and Production teams to ensure consistent product quality and regulatory compliance. The position focuses on maintaining robust quality and food safety systems, including SQF and HACCP programs, and leading daily quality control activities in a food manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, improve, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) in coordination with Quality Assurance and Production teams.
- Perform daily quality control tasks and monitor processing activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and food safety requirements.
- Assist with internal, customer, and regulatory audits, including those conducted under USDA, FDA, and SQF standards.
- Maintain, implement, and continuously improve SQF and HACCP programs, ensuring appropriate verification and validation activities.
- Conduct inspections on raw materials, in?process products, and finished goods to verify adherence to quality and food safety standards.
- Support and coordinate calibration programs for equipment and instruments used in quality and food safety testing.
- Manage nonconformance investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead communication of quality and food safety standards across departments to ensure consistent understanding and adherence.
- Organize team workload coverage to maintain continuous quality control support across all shifts and operations.
- Supervise quality control staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight.
- Oversee prerequisite programs related to food safety and quality, ensuring they are effectively implemented and documented.
- Investigate customer complaints related to product quality or safety and ensure timely resolution and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations and customer-specific quality and food safety requirements.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree (4?year) in food science or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience managing quality and food safety operations, preferably in a sous vide food manufacturing environment.
- Hands?on experience with quality assurance and quality control in a food production setting.
- Practical knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in food manufacturing.
- Experience working with SQF or similar third?party food safety certification programs.
- Familiarity with USDA and FDA regulatory requirements for food processing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross?functional collaboration and reporting.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of quality control staff.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a sous vide or ready?to?eat food manufacturing environment.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining SOPs in a regulated setting.
- Experience participating in or leading internal, customer, and regulatory audits.

Work Environment
The role is based in an indoor, climate?controlled food manufacturing facility designed to support consistent product quality and employee comfort. You will work primarily on a first shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., supporting production and quality operations during core business hours. The environment involves close collaboration with production, quality, and other operational teams, and regular use of standard office tools such as MS Office alongside quality and food safety testing equipment.
