Neighborhood-Based Older Adult Program Coordinator

The Neighborhood-Based Older Adult Program Coordinator performs professional and administrative work in the development, promotion, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of neighborhood-based programming for older adults. Under the general supervision of the Community Resources Manager, this position works collaboratively with community centers, partner organizations, volunteers, and an external evaluator to assess program interests, implement activities and nutrition initiatives, promote participation, and track participation outcomes. Work involves exercising independent judgment and initiative in coordinating programming across neighborhood-based sites, supporting partnerships with food providers and community organizations, and helping evaluate the impact of the program on older adult engagement and social connection. Work may include evenings or occasional weekend hours based on program schedules.

There are currently two positions available. These are Part-Time, Limited-Term positions, scheduled for 29 hours a week (0.75 FTE each) with an expected duration of four years. The positions are eligible for benefits, including WRS retirement, health insurance (with a pro-rated premium), vacation, holidays, etc. Employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, implement, coordinate, and maintain neighborhood-based programs, services, and activities that support the well-being and social connection of older adults

  • Work with community center staff to assess the interests and program needs of older adults in each neighborhood-based site.
  • Develop and implement a weekly schedule of activities and programs that reflect the needs and interests of participating older adults.
  • Coordinate and implement programs including educational workshops, recreation activities, wellness programming, and social engagement opportunities.
  • Recruit and coordinate program facilitators, instructors, volunteers, and community partners to support program delivery.
  • Coordinate program logistics including scheduling, supplies, equipment, and space arrangements in collaboration with community center staff.
  • Collaborate with community partners and organizations to expand program offerings and increase access to resources.
  • Monitor participation levels and program effectiveness and make recommendations for program improvements.
  • Support special events and activities that promote engagement and connection among older adult participants.

Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness of neighborhood-based programming and strengthen connections with older adults and community partners

  • Promote programming and activities in collaboration with Madison Senior Center staff and neighborhood community centers.
  • Conduct outreach to recruit participants through community meetings, events, presentations, and partner networks.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, service providers, and neighborhood partners serving older adults.
  • Develop and distribute program information through print materials, email communications, and community partner networks.
  • Support marketing and communications efforts that increase visibility of neighborhood-based older adult programs and services.
  • Work collaboratively with community centers to build welcoming and inclusive environments for diverse participants.

Support program tracking, nutrition program implementation, and evaluation of the program

  • Work collaboratively with the external evaluator, Community Development Division (CDD) staff, and community center staff to track program participation, attendance, and outcomes.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining program participation data and basic outcome measures related to engagement and social connection.
  • Coordinate neighborhood-based nutrition programming, including breakfast or lunch experiences, in collaboration with community centers and community partners.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with food providers, meal programs, and community organizations supporting nutrition access.
  • Coordinate food delivery schedules or manage site-based stipends for meal programming depending on the model implemented.
  • Track program outputs such as number of meals served and participation in nutrition programming.
  • Maintain program records and assist with preparing reports related to program activities, participation, and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience (volunteer, internship, paid employment, or any combination thereof) involving one or more of the following:

  • Planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, or evaluating community-based programs, services, or activities serving older adults or other targeted populations.
  • Working collaboratively with community-based organizations, public agencies, community centers, service providers, or other parties of interest to develop, coordinate, or support programs, outreach, and community engagement efforts.
  • Conducting outreach, building relationships, and engaging community members to increase participation in programs, services, or community initiatives.
  • Collecting, tracking, analyzing, or reporting program participation data or outcomes to support program improvement, planning, or evaluation.
  • Working with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities and organizations and demonstrating a commitment to racial equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.

OR

Completion of at least two (2) years of post-secondary coursework or a degree (Associate, Bachelor's, or higher) in Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Gerontology, Public Health, Communications, Education, Nonprofit Management, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, or another closely related field focused on serving individuals, families, and communities.

OR

Four (4) years experience in applying the following:

  • Methods used to schedule, organize, and implement programs, services, activities, and events within community-based settings.
  • Outreach, marketing, public relations, and communication principles, techniques, and practices used to promote community-based programs and services.

Two (2) years experience in applying the following:

  • Working in and/or implementing programs, activities, and engagement opportunities that contribute to the well-being, social connection, and quality of life of older adults from diverse segments of the community.
  • Strategies for building partnerships and securing community resources, including volunteers, facilitators, and in-kind contributions that support programming.
  • Methods used to promote programs and events.
  • Methods used to prepare clear and concise narrative and statistical reports, maintain program records, and use surveys or other tools to assess participant needs, participation levels, and program outcomes.
  • Using computer software applicable to the duties of the position, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other computer applications used for program coordination, communication, and reporting.

Familiarity with the following:

  • Community resources and services available to older adults.
  • Basic budgeting procedures and practices.
  • Cultural competence as evidenced by the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse coworkers, community members, and partners.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver's license. Ability to adjust scheduled hours to lead selected evening and weekend programs. Physical Requirements: Ability to assist in room arrangements (including moving tables and chairs) and operate equipment. Ability to lift 30 pounds occasionally. Ability to work at a sit/stand desk for extended periods of time using standard office equipment. The payroll title for these positions is Senior Center Program Coordinator.
