This executive will play a key leadership role in identifying, developing, and producing compelling content that drives audience engagement, supports network and business objectives, and reinforces NBC's position as an industry leader in entertainment. The ideal candidate is an experienced creative executive with deep expertise in unscripted alternative formats. This individual will serve as a trusted partner to production companies, showrunners, talent, and internal stakeholders while maintaining a high standard of creative excellence and operational execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development pipeline, including pitches, presentations, pilots, proof-of-concepts, step deals, and first-season orders.
  • Serve as the primary NBC liaison for assigned productions, building productive relationships with production companies, executive producers, creators, talent, and key creative partners.
  • Oversee all stages of production and post-production to ensure alignment with creative vision, network priorities, production schedules, budgets, contractual obligations, and NBC quality standards.
  • Provide strategic and creative feedback throughout development and production, including format development, casting, story structure, episode outlines, rundowns, set design, graphics, music, and overall creative execution.
  • Attend production shoots, studio tapings, and location filming as needed to provide creative guidance, problem-solving support, and executive oversight.
  • Partner closely with talent, producers, and production teams to address creative and operational challenges and drive effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, Research, Programming, and Ad Sales teams to maximize audience reach, franchise value, and business results.
  • Review and evaluate development and production budgets, schedules, and financial plans to ensure efficient resource allocation and successful execution.
  • Ensure compliance with NBCUniversal standards, policies, legal requirements, and production guidelines.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong industry relationships with agents, managers, production companies, creators, producers, and talent.
  • Evaluate potential projects, talent, production partners, and emerging trends across the alternative entertainment landscape while championing innovative ideas, evolving existing franchises, and identifying opportunities to create new formats.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in alternative or unscripted television programming, production, development, or content strategy at a broadcast network, streaming platform, cable network, studio, or production company, including oversight of programming from development through delivery.
  • Demonstrated success developing, producing, and launching alternative formats, competition series, franchise programming, and talent-driven content.
  • Experience managing budgets, production schedules, and external production partners.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with talent, agents, managers, independent producers, and production companies.
  • Experience collaborating effectively across Marketing, Digital, Communications, Research, Programming, Ad Sales, and other business functions.
  • Deep understanding of competition formats, reality programming, studio entertainment, game shows, and live or event-style programming.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Expert knowledge of contemporary television production, post-production, digital content, and social media platforms.
  • Strong relationships with independent producers, executive producers, and showrunners.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders and lead through collaboration.
  • Ability to balance creative priorities with business objectives and operational realities.
  • Highly organized, solutions-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, innovative, and high-energy environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
