Job description

Development Officer

Nestled in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is the leading senior services organization in Northern California. Our continuum of care includes: the Frank Residences assisted living and memory care; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center, offering long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, an acute geriatric psychiatric unit for adults over the age of 65; and our Foundation.

Founded in 1871 and formerly known as the Jewish Home, our legacy grounds us as our vision propels us forward. Today, we've evolved to support more than 2,500 older adults each year through innovative, comprehensive programs rooted in the Jewish values of compassion, community, and excellence. We are equally proud of our inclusive culture, where 950 team members of diverse faiths and backgrounds work together in shared purpose.

The Development Officer is a newly created role that will help strengthen and expand philanthropic support for the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL). Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), this position plays a key role in cultivating donor relationships, growing annual giving programs, managing a portfolio of mid-level and emerging major donors, and supporting future fundraising initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven fundraiser who is equally comfortable engaging donors, developing stewardship strategies, writing compelling communications, and collaborating across departments. This position works closely with the CDO, internal stakeholders, Board members, and campaign consultants to advance SFCJL's mission and philanthropic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level and emerging major donors, cultivating relationships and securing annual philanthropic support.
  • Conduct proactive donor outreach through meetings, phone calls, emails, thank-you calls, and stewardship activities.
  • Identify and develop emerging major gift prospects in partnership with the Chief Development Officer.
  • Maintain accurate donor records, pipeline activity, and fundraising progress within Salesforce.
  • Track donor engagement and monitor progress toward annual fundraising goals.
  • Lead the continued growth of SFCJL's Grateful Giving Program by partnering with Marketing to enhance branding and communications while collaborating with clinical and program staff to identify philanthropic opportunities.
  • Manage stewardship and renewal efforts for the Generations Circle annual giving program.
  • Support the Carob Tree Circle legacy giving program through personalized stewardship and follow-up with prospective planned giving donors.
  • Partner with the Director of Philanthropic Experiences to plan donor events and engagement opportunities.
  • Manage a portfolio of institutional grants, including tracking deadlines and preparing grant reports in collaboration with program staff and the CDO.
  • Serve as the primary internal liaison to campaign consultants by coordinating communications, fundraising data requests, and campaign planning activities.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with leadership, Board members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Represent SFCJL professionally at donor meetings, community events, and fundraising activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
