Associate Director of the Center for Disability Services

The Associate Director of the Center for Disability Services (CDS) provides leadership and oversight for the College's disability intake and accommodation processes. As a working supervisor, this position conducts student intakes, determines accommodations, and oversees the consistency and quality of services provided by assigned staff. The Associate Director serves as the point of escalation for complex cases, facilitates case consultation sessions, and leads continuous improvement efforts. This position ensures compliance with applicable College, state, and federal policies and regulations throughout the intake and accommodation process, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Duties & Responsibilities

Disability Accommodations

  • Conduct intake interviews with students to assess disability-related needs and determine reasonable academic accommodations
  • Review and interpret medical, psychological, and educational documentation in accordance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines
  • Communicate accommodation determinations and follow-up procedures clearly, respectfully, and in alignment with student rights and institutional responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison to faculty, staff, and instructional leadership on accommodation implementation, curricular access, and related compliance matters
  • Investigate and respond to reports of accommodation concerns, mediate disputes, and facilitate resolution in cases involving noncompliance, miscommunication, or undue burden
  • Coordinate with CDS staff to ensure timely delivery of accommodations such as assistive technology, alternate format materials, and testing services
  • Participate in team meetings to ensure alignment of intake, accommodation, and support services across the department
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student accommodations in compliance with FERPA and institutional policy
  • Support the development of outreach materials, training content, and website resources that promote student awareness of CDS services and disability access

Supervisory Oversight

  • Recruit, train, and supervise assigned staff involved in intake, accommodation, and case management functions
  • Lead regular case consultation sessions with assigned staff to review accommodation decisions, explore complex cases, and ensure consistency in service delivery
  • Provide ongoing coaching, support, and professional development to staff engaged in documentation review, student communication, and accommodation implementation
  • Serve as the point of escalation for sensitive, unique, or high-impact student cases requiring advanced judgment or coordination across departments
  • Monitor individual and shared caseloads for quality, equity, and timeliness, intervening when needed to support service continuity and resolution
  • Ensure assigned staff practices align with legal obligations, departmental procedures, and the College's commitment to access and inclusion
  • Collaborate with the CDS Director to assess staffing needs, inform strategic planning, and support department-wide priorities

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Lead evaluation and improvement of intake, documentation review, and accommodation processes to ensure consistency, efficiency, and legal compliance
  • Identify service gaps, recurring issues, or equity concerns through case review, staff input, and data trends
  • Develop and maintain internal procedures, tools, and reference materials to guide staff decision-making and promote consistent service delivery
  • Ensure departmental practices reflect current federal and state disability access laws, institutional policies, and evolving best practices
  • Coordinate with the CDS Director to implement policy changes, adjust workflows, and assess the impact of procedural updates
  • Support preparation for audits, complaints, or compliance reviews by ensuring clear documentation and adherence to standards

General Duties

  • Participate in and lead trainings, meetings, and process improvement efforts
  • Lead, support, and participate in assigned departmental and interdepartmental projects, work groups, and committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including rotating front desk coverage to support departmental operations and meet the needs of the campus
  • Provide support to other staff and department functions during absences, events, and peak service periods
  • Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and service-oriented environment across all interactions

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Disability Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Three (3) years of professional experience providing support to people with disabilities
  • One (1) year of experience in a role with lead and/or supervisory responsibilities

Required Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal and state disability access laws, including ADA and Section 504
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and communication access services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skill in preparing technical documentation and service records
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Skill in supervising staff and managing front-office workflows
  • Proficiency with office software and database systems

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Disability Studies, or a related field
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language
  • Previous management/supervisory experience
  • Experience working in higher-educational, non-profit, or state agencies

Additional Information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, printers, and telecommunication devices.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data from various sources.
  • Ability to prepare and present detailed reports, both in written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to exchange information on the phone, through video conferencing, or in person.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing routine tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, twelve (12) months per year.
  • Exempt from civil service staff member with a year-to-year contract.
  • Represented by the American Federation of Teachers Exempt / Everett Local #6485.
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Performance will be evaluated annually.
