Job description

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for US-based attorneys with significant experience in public interest law, civil litigation, nonprofit advocacy, impact litigation, and access-to-justice matters.

This short-term role supports an AI research initiative focused on improving legal reasoning across housing, family law, consumer protection, debt collection, bankruptcy, and related civil justice matters. Selected professionals will evaluate AI-generated analyses, identify legal and procedural weaknesses, assess litigation strategy, and provide structured feedback grounded in real-world civil advocacy experience.

Key Responsibilities

Civil Legal Analysis Review

  • Review AI-generated legal analyses for legal accuracy, completeness, and practical usefulness
  • Assess issue spotting, application of law to facts, and the quality of legal conclusions
  • Identify unsupported assumptions, missed claims or defences, and material reasoning gaps
  • Evaluate whether responses reflect realistic public interest and civil litigation practice

Civil Justice Scenario Evaluation

  • Review scenarios involving housing, family law, consumer protection, debt collection, and bankruptcy
  • Assess available remedies, procedural requirements, deadlines, and client-centred considerations
  • Identify legal issues affecting low-income, underserved, or otherwise vulnerable individuals
  • Evaluate whether guidance appropriately addresses jurisdictional and factual limitations

Procedural & Litigation Strategy Assessment

  • Review filing requirements, evidentiary considerations, hearing procedures, and litigation strategy
  • Assess whether proposed legal approaches are procedurally sound and practically achievable
  • Identify missing procedural steps, inappropriate recommendations, and litigation risks
  • Consider negotiation, administrative, trial, appellate, and systemic advocacy options where relevant

Structured Feedback & Quality Calibration

  • Deliver clear written evaluations explaining the strengths and weaknesses of each response
  • Recommend specific improvements to legal reasoning, procedural analysis, and strategy
  • Apply consistent evaluation standards across varied civil justice scenarios
  • Collaborate with legal and research specialists to improve reference materials and evaluation criteria

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in public interest law, civil litigation, nonprofit advocacy, or impact litigation
  • Active admission to practise law in at least one US jurisdiction
  • Strong experience representing or advising clients in civil legal matters
  • Expertise in housing, family law, consumer protection, debt collection, bankruptcy, or related practice areas
  • Experience evaluating legal reasoning, litigation strategy, and procedural guidance
  • Excellent legal writing, analytical judgment, and attention to detail
  • Ability to provide precise, structured, and practical written feedback
  • Availability to contribute approximately 15 hours per week

Educational Background

  • A Juris Doctor degree is required
  • Active US bar admission is required
  • Additional education or training in civil procedure, public interest law, access to justice, or litigation may be valuable
  • Experience within a nonprofit legal organisation, civil rights practice, legal aid provider, or impact litigation firm is highly relevant

Nice to Have

  • Experience with employment law, elder law, disability rights, or other civil rights matters
  • Background in policy advocacy, legislative work, systemic reform, or class-action litigation
  • Experience supervising attorneys, legal fellows, law students, or multidisciplinary advocacy teams
  • Familiarity with legal aid programmes, court-access initiatives, or community legal services
  • Experience developing litigation resources, legal training materials, or evaluation frameworks
  • Interest or prior involvement in legal technology, AI-assisted legal research, or structured legal evaluation
  • Experience collaborating with policy specialists, researchers, technologists, or community organisations

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply public interest and civil litigation expertise to an emerging legal research initiative
  • Help improve AI-generated legal reasoning across important civil justice matters
  • Evaluate realistic scenarios involving litigation, procedural strategy, and access to justice
  • Contribute practical insights grounded in direct client advocacy and systemic legal work
  • Participate in an intellectually engaging short-term project with competitive compensation

Contract Details

  • Independent contractor role
  • Fully remote with flexible scheduling
  • Available to professionals based in the United States
  • Expected commitment of approximately 15 hours per week
  • Estimated project duration of approximately 2–3 weeks
  • Competitive compensation of up to $145 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
  • Active US bar admission and a Juris Doctor degree are required
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • Work may include legal-response evaluation, procedural review, litigation-strategy assessment, structured feedback, and calibration activities
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
  • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
