Job description
Job Summary:
The Assistant Project Engineer supports generation projects by assisting Project Engineers with financial and project management tasks across all project phases including initiation, scoping, design, construction, and closeout. This role involves preparing project documentation, managing schedules and budgets, coordinating stakeholder reviews, and ensuring compliance with licensing and safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare project plans, risk registers, award memos, purchase requisitions, scopes of work, and other governance documents under Project Engineer supervision.
- Develop contract documents and collect accounting information for contracts and change orders.
- Attend project status meetings to update schedule, cost, and overall project information accurately.
- Forecast and verify project budgets and resource allocations, updating regularly with Project Controls team.
- Track monthly invoices and prepare accruals for project financial reporting.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholder reviews of submittals and RFIs using project management software, maintaining comment logs and follow-ups.
- Develop and maintain a Project Action Items List, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Incorporate licensing, environmental, permitting, safety, code compliance, and stakeholder requirements into project phases.
- Support Project Engineers in stakeholder engagement, technical document review, forecasting, variance reporting, schedule and contract management.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, environmental, mechanical, electrical), construction management, or related field.
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel, including advanced functions like SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, Pivot Tables, and chart creation.
- Ability to clearly understand and communicate technical engineering information verbally and in writing.
- Ability to manage project schedules and financials effectively.
- Minimum of one year experience in engineering, construction management, or project administration/management preferred.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Proficiency with or ability to use project and construction management software such as Procore or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of SAP and experience using purchase order systems for cost tracking.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 for schedule development and management.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or ability to obtain.
