Hardware Engineer – IPS Custom Automation Full-Time | IPS Custom AutomationIPS Custom Automation is seeking a detail-oriented and innovative Hardware Engineer to support the design, development, and integration of electrical and hardware systems for custom automation equipment. This position will work closely with controls engineers, mechanical engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to deliver reliable and cost-effective automation solutions.The ideal candidate has experience designing industrial electrical systems, selecting hardware components, and supporting machine builds from concept through commissioning. Key Responsibilities Design and develop electrical hardware systems for custom automation equipment and machinery. Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, BOMs, and wiring documentation. Select and specify electrical components including PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, safety devices, and power distribution hardware. Collaborate with controls engineers and mechanical designers throughout project development. Support machine build activities, troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning. Ensure designs meet customer specifications, safety standards, and applicable electrical codes. Assist with risk assessments and machine safety implementation. Work with vendors and suppliers to source components and resolve technical issues. Support FATs, SATs, and customer acceptance activities. Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering field. 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, machine building, or electrical hardware design. Experience designing electrical control panels and industrial machine wiring systems. Knowledge of PLC hardware platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff. Proficiency with electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN. Understanding of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP and Profinet. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and organizational abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills Experience with machine safety systems and safety circuit design. Knowledge of UL508A, NFPA79, and industrial electrical standards. Experience supporting robotic and motion control systems. Hands-on machine startup and commissioning experience. Exposure to custom automation, packaging, automotive, or assembly equipment.
