About The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

About The Pediatric Psychologist

The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences seeks a Pediatric Psychologist to provide broad clinical services across varied settings and modalities, including integrated and co-located healthcare venues, tele-mental health, subspecialty pediatric clinics and traditional mental health outpatient clinics. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals .

This faculty member will provide clinical practice in integrated inpatient medical settings and outpatient behavioral health settings with a specific focus on working with women and families in the perinatal period, particularly those with medical complications in the perinatal and/or neonatal period.

Essential Functions

Inpatient Clinical Services in the NICU at Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA)

● Complete health behavior assessments and interventions in the neonatal intensive care unit (Interventions in the NICU are provided to address factors related to the infant’s medical condition, health, and wellness).

● Attend and lead multidisciplinary psychosocial rounds and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care conferences

● Provide consultation to multidisciplinary providers and staff

● Provide dyadic interventions to enhance bonding and optimize health outcomes

● Attend and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and team rounds

● Provide timely documentation and billing

Outpatient Clinical Services

● Provide mental health services (individual, group, and couples/family) to women and partners with medical complications in the perinatal and/or neonatal period through in-person and telehealth modalities.

●Provide brief mental health services to women in the perinatal period, including those experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss and/or infertility.

● Provide brief mental health services to women and partners during pregnancy or postpartum with perinatal depression, anxiety, trauma and other concerns.

● Develop and lead wellness promotion groups for women and families in the perinatal period

● Provide palliative behavioral health care and bereavement support, as necessary

Training/Education and Program Activities

● Supervise clinical health psychology trainees and/or postdoctoral fellow(s) in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings

● Provide relevant didactics for learners across health disciplines.

● Design and deliver educational sessions/activities for staff, providers, and community providers related to mental health services for women, infants, and families with medical complications during or after pregnancy

● Engage in quality improvement, program evaluation, and research activities as part of the CFCC/NICU psychosocial team

● May occasionally provide coverage in other clinics such as Dell Children’s Medical Center on an as needed basis

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

● PhD or PsyD in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology

● Completion of an APA- or CPA accredited internship and formal post-doctoral training

● License or license-eligible in Texas

● Experience with infants, parents, and/or families in multidisciplinary team settings during pregnancy and post-partum

● Experience working in integrated medical care settings (preferably obstetric and/or neonatal)

Preferred Qualifications

●Spanish speaking proficiency

●Formal post-doctoral training and/or experience in an appropriate area of specialization (e.g., Perinatal/Reproductive Mental Health, Infant Mental Health, or other relevant specialization with experience in integrated medical and/or neonatal settings).#healthstartshere2
