Job description

Project Manager Architecture (Design/Build Military Construction)

This role leads complex architectural projects within an integrated Design/Build construction environment focused on military facilities. The project manager provides technical leadership across multiple disciplines, including fire protection and life safety, civil, landscape architecture, structural, interior design, mechanical and plumbing, electrical, and telecommunications/audio visual/security. The position oversees projects from schematic design through construction documentation, ensuring compliance with building codes and Unified Facilities Criteria while coordinating closely with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality Department of Defense construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple architecture projects within an integrated Design/Build construction environment focused on military construction.
  • Provide technical leadership for the architectural design team from schematic design through construction documentation.
  • Oversee and coordinate work across key disciplines, including fire protection and life safety, civil, landscape architecture, structural, interior design, mechanical and plumbing, electrical, and telecommunications/audio visual/security.
  • Develop, review, and manage construction documentation for projects ranging from approximately $30 million to $150 million in value.
  • Ensure architectural designs and construction documents comply with applicable building codes and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
  • Coordinate closely with engineers, architects, and other design professionals to resolve project coordination issues and maintain design integrity.
  • Provide strong client management and representation throughout all phases of the project.
  • Apply a strong understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and low voltage systems to support integrated project delivery.
  • Guide and support the implementation of construction practices and methodologies aligned with project requirements and codes.
  • Review and refine architectural construction detailing to ensure technical accuracy and constructability.
  • Use Revit and other design tools to produce, manage, and coordinate architectural models and documentation.
  • Communicate clearly with project stakeholders through written reports, presentations, and meetings.
  • Organize and prioritize project tasks, schedules, and resources to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Travel to project sites and meetings as needed, approximately 2030% of the time, to support project execution and coordination.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
  • 10 or more years of experience in construction documentation for projects valued between approximately $30 million and $150 million.
  • Strong understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and low voltage systems as they relate to architectural design.
  • Proven technical expertise in architectural construction detailing and documentation.
  • Proficiency with Revit software and experience using it for architectural design and documentation.
  • Strong technical competence and experience spanning schematic design through construction documentation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of building code implementation and construction practices and methodologies.
  • Understanding and experience with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and building codes.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective coordination and client interaction.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 2030% of the time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) projects, preferred.
  • Experience in military or DoD-related architecture or construction environments.
  • Experience in architecture project management within a Design/Build context.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Experience using Bluebeam for document review and markup.
  • Experience with SpecsIntact for specification management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, communication, and reporting.

Work Environment

The role operates within an established architecture department that is part of an integrated Design/Build construction organization focused on military construction projects. The position follows a hybrid work schedule, with in-office work typically on Monday through Wednesday and optional work-from-home days on Thursday and Friday. The work involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams using tools such as Revit, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator, Bluebeam, SpecsIntact, and Microsoft Office. The role includes periodic travel, approximately 2030% of the time, to project sites and meetings to support coordination and project delivery.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
