EMT Program Director

Salary Range $70,500.00 - $77,000.00 Salary

The EMT Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, academic quality, and regulatory compliance of US Colleges' Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program. The Program Director provides strategic and operational oversight of curriculum, faculty, student outcomes, employer partnerships, program approval, accreditation, and full compliance with all applicable federal, state, institutional, and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) regulations.

The EMT Program Director serves as the designated Program Director in accordance with California EMS Authority (EMSA) requirements and Local Emergency Medical Services Agency (LEMSA) approval standards for an approved EMT training program.

The Program Director serves in a dual capacity as both academic leader and active instructor, maintaining direct classroom and laboratory instruction to ensure instructional quality, regulatory compliance, and student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of the EMT Program, including planning, implementation, evaluation, continuous improvement, and alignment with institutional priorities, EMS workforce needs, and student success outcomes.
  • Establish program goals, measurable outcomes, quality improvement initiatives, and promote a culture of academic excellence, accountability, professionalism, and continuous program improvement.
  • Lead the development, review, revision, implementation, and consistent delivery of curriculum across all instructional sites in compliance with California EMT training standards, EMSA/LEMSA requirements, and approved course outlines.
  • Maintain instructional materials, simulation equipment, skills lab resources, and educational technology necessary for program delivery.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, mentor, evaluate, and provide ongoing coaching and professional development for faculty and adjunct instructors; ensure maintenance of required licensure, certifications, and instructional competency.
  • Serve as instructor of record for at least one EMT course each academic term or course cycle; evaluate student performance, maintain accurate academic records, and provide timely feedback.
  • Serve as the designated Program Director and primary liaison with regulatory and accrediting agencies; maintain all required program approvals, authorizations, certifications, affiliation agreements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare for and manage audits, inspections, site visits, accreditation reviews, internal audits, corrective actions, self-studies, renewals, and required reports within established timelines.
  • Monitor student retention, progression, completion, certification examination pass rates, employment outcomes, and compliance with all didactic, psychomotor, and field externship requirements; analyze outcomes and implement improvement strategies to enhance student success and program effectiveness.
  • Secure, coordinate, maintain, and expand field externship (ride-along) opportunities with EMS employers; verify completion of all required field experience components.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships, affiliation agreements, and MOUs with EMS employers, hospitals, fire departments, public safety agencies, and other clinical partners to support externship placements and employment pathways in accordance with EMSA/LEMSA requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet California EMS regulations and Local EMS Agency approval requirements for a designated EMT Program Director.

Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred Associate degree with significant EMS education leadership experience may be considered where permitted under EMSA/LEMSA approval standards Licensure Licensed Paramedic, Physician (MD/DO), Registered Nurse (RN), or Physician Assistant (PA) with current and unrestricted California licensure Experience Minimum of two (2) years of academic and/or clinical experience in EMS or prehospital care within the previous five (5) years Minimum of one (1) year of administrative, supervisory, or program leadership experience Experience in EMT or paramedic education preferred Experience with curriculum development, accreditation, regulatory compliance, and employer partnership development preferred Teaching Methodology Completion of a minimum forty (40)-hour instructor methodology course or equivalent approved by the applicable Local EMS Agency

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of California EMS Authority and Local EMS Agency EMT training program requirements Knowledge of approved EMT curriculum standards and course approval processes Knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design, and psychomotor skills evaluation Ability to lead curriculum development and continuous quality improvement in an approved EMS education program Strong leadership, supervisory, and faculty development skills Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with EMS agencies, employers, and regulatory bodies Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills Ability to interpret and apply EMSA/LEMSA regulations, accreditation standards, and institutional policies Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining program approval compliance Proficiency with LMS platforms, student information systems, and instructional technology

Travel and Work Requirements

Regular travel between college campuses is required Must be available to teach at assigned campuses based on program needs and scheduling requirements Occasional travel to EMS agencies, externship affiliates, field training sites, LEMSA meetings, accreditation visits, and community outreach events may be required Must maintain a valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
