Job description

Assistant Director of Student Services

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Student Services, the Assistant Director of Student Services is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of school counseling programs, MTSS behavior strategies, mental health supports, career pathways, and college access programs. This role involves overseeing partnerships with academic institutions, community colleges, and business partners to ensure students' seamless transition from K-12 to college.

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

  • Lead programs and services aimed at student post-secondary success and achievement.
  • Implement school counseling programs at each school site by assessing the needs of each individual site.
  • Hire diverse and qualified school counselors and college advisors.
  • Provide individual and group supervision and support to practicing school counselors and college advisors.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop progress monitoring tools.
  • Ensure compliance with state laws and board policies related to college, career and technical education and school guidance.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal and external groups.
  • Provide professional development to staff on mental health supports, college access initiatives, and MTSS.
  • Establish systems of support for students in academic, social/emotional, and college/career domains.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor family workshops and events.
  • Participate in meetings to advise on intervention strategies.
  • Support site administration with 504 plans.
  • Serve on committees and attend meetings as assigned.
  • Oversee diploma, local and state, and federal recognition programs (i.e., seal of biliteracy, golden seal of merit, etc.).
  • Support the implementation of College Board-related and other network assessments.
  • California Community Schools Partnership Program and grant management.
  • Foster a college and career-going culture at all school sites.
  • Ensure graduates are fully ready for post-secondary success.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a network-wide college counseling framework in collaboration with the school principals across each grade level.
  • Collaborate with the AMPS data team to establish AMPS as a partner district with the California College Guidance Initiative to connect to K-16 resources for college and career planning.
  • Increase collaboration between college counselors and school staff.
  • Develop partnerships with non-school personnel and higher education institutions to augment the resources available to students through the school counseling program including, but not limited to, dual credit opportunities, institutions of higher education, college/career fairs, and financial aid events.
  • Manage the University of California A-G Course Management Portal.
  • Support data integrity of student records and outcomes.
  • Develop consistent data collection methods.
  • Collaborate with data teams to connect to resources for college and career planning.
  • Assess professional development needs of school counselors and college advisors.
  • Collaborate with school counselor professional associations.
  • Support college and university personnel in supervising interns/fieldwork students.
  • Collect and maintain accurate student data on postsecondary opportunities.
  • Develop consistent data collection methods to inform intervention practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Use data to develop action plans.
  • Participate in meetings to advise on the use of data to identify students for tiered intervention.
  • Analyze and respond to student data effectively. Perform other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Candidate Requirements

Strong understanding of learning management systems (LMS), student information systems (SIS), and educational data standards.

Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and solve problems effectively.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Knowledge of public education and charter school movement, preferred.

Qualifications

Master's degree in School Counseling or related field.

Meet CA licensure and credentialing requirements in school counseling.

Minimum of three years of successful college counseling and career pathway experience.

Previous work experience in charter schools, preferred
