Position Summary
St. Francis High School seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and collaborative Theatre Arts Instructor to join our faculty. This full-time, 10-month faculty position is responsible for teaching introductory and advanced theatre courses while directing the school’s theatrical productions, including a fall play and spring musical.
The successful candidate will inspire young men to develop their artistic abilities while fostering confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership within a faith-filled learning environment.

What You’ll Do
As our Theatre Arts Instructor, you will:

  • Teach Theatre Arts and Advanced Acting Honors courses.
  • Develop an engaging curriculum in acting, directing, theatre history, dramatic literature, stagecraft, and performance.
  • Direct and produce the school’s annual theatrical productions from auditions through final performances.
  • Prepare students for the Festival of the Arts and other public performances.
  • Teach acting techniques, vocal performance, movement, improvisation, character development, script analysis, and audition preparation.
  • Supervise and mentor student performers, stage managers, and technical crews.
  • Coordinate production elements including lighting, sound, scenery, props, costumes, and backstage operations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Visual and Performing Arts to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, alumni, guest artists, and community members.
  • Promote a classroom culture built on respect, accountability, creativity, collaboration, and Franciscan values.
  • Maintain student records, assess performance-based learning, communicate student progress, and uphold school policies and academic standards.

Requirements

Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, Drama, or related field
  • Experience teaching theatre at the secondary or post-secondary level
  • Experience directing theatrical productions
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience directing musicals
  • Experience with technical theatre, including lighting, sound, costumes, scenic design, and stage management
  • Experience in a Catholic or independent school
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and educational technology

Work Environment
This position combines classroom instruction with extensive after-school theatre activities. Candidates should expect:

  • A collaborative Visual and Performing Arts Department.
  • Evening rehearsals during production seasons.
  • Occasional weekend rehearsals and performances.
  • Active participation in school events, faculty meetings, retreats, and community activities.
  • Teaching in both classroom settings and the Degheri Performing Arts Center, a professional performance venue.
  • The position requires extensive campus mobility, including walking throughout indoor and outdoor facilities, AND navigating stairs.
  • Position may require occasionally lifting objects up to 20 pounds.
