Job descriptionWe are seeking an experienced Full Stack Developer (Ruby on Rails Developer) to join the development team working on a mature, high-traffic Rails platform supporting veterinary practice communications, GraphQL APIs, and backend services. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, MySQL, AWS, GraphQL/REST APIs, and modern DevOps practices while contributing across the full application stack. Roles and Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack web applications using Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, MySQL, and GraphQL/REST APIs.
Own features from requirements gathering through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
Build and integrate with internal systems and third-party services including SMS, email, identity, storage, and analytics platforms.
Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
Develop and maintain background jobs using Sidekiq and Redis.
Work with AWS services including S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, CloudWatch, and Elastic Beanstalk.
Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Docker.
Support Rails upgrades, legacy application maintenance, security improvements, and performance tuning.
Participate in automated testing, code reviews, and production troubleshooting. Required Skills:
5+ years of full-stack web application development experience.
Strong experience with Ruby on Rails (ActiveRecord, controllers, services, workers, migrations).
Strong JavaScript development experience.
SQL/MySQL including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
Experience building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs.
Automated testing experience (Minitest, Capybara, Selenium, or equivalent).
Redis and Sidekiq (or similar background job frameworks).
AWS experience with S3, SQS, SNS, Lambda, CloudWatch, and Elastic Beanstalk (or similar).
Strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and software architecture knowledge.
Experience working with large production codebases.
Rails 6/7 upgrades and legacy Rails application maintenance.
Auth0, Devise, JWT, MFA, or SSO implementation.
Twilio, SendGrid, telecom/SMS compliance (A2P/10DLC).
Docker and GitHub Actions CI/CD.
GraphQL schema design and API versioning.
ActiveStorage and file upload pipelines.
Rails performance tuning, caching, and queue optimization.
Security-focused development (CSRF protection, session hardening, webhook validation).
i18n/localization.
Terraform/Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Feature flags, PaperTrail, audit trails, and soft deletes.
Healthcare, Veterinary, or SaaS practice management domain experience.
