Senior Systems Network Security Engineer

Job Summary:

The Senior Systems, Network and Security Engineer/Technical Lead is a part-time, hybrid role based in Alameda, California, responsible for providing advanced L2/L3 technical support and serving as the primary onsite technical lead. This role encompasses Windows server administration, network and endpoint security, cloud backup management, VoIP support, and cybersecurity incident response. The engineer will independently troubleshoot across multiple technology layers and coordinate with vendors while ensuring system reliability and security.

Responsibilities:

• Perform one scheduled onsite support day every week and additional visits for outages, deployments, and security incidents.
• Travel between primary office, satellite office, housing complexes, and other locations within Alameda.
• Resolve escalated incidents involving desktops, laptops, docking stations, printers, copiers, conference-room systems, VoIP, servers, networks, VPN, and security systems.
• Administer and maintain onsite Windows servers including monitoring health, services, storage, capacity, logs, warranties, and performance.
• Install approved operating system patches, firmware, upgrades, and security updates.
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file and print services, and Microsoft 365 components.
• Support firewalls, switches, wireless access points, routers, internet circuits, VLANs, VPNs, and network cabling.
• Monitor cloud backups, troubleshoot failures, perform authorized restores, and support recovery testing.
• Administer endpoint protection tools and investigate escalated cybersecurity alerts.
• Support containment, endpoint isolation, credential resets, malware remediation, recovery, and incident documentation.
• Troubleshoot network dependencies supporting cameras, intercoms, access-control systems, printers, copiers, and recording platforms.
• Coordinate technical issues with vendors related to Yardi, Laserfiche, telecommunications, website, backup, security-system, and applications.
• Maintain server documentation, network diagrams, configuration records, privileged-account documentation, and change records.
• Identify unsupported, aging, or high-risk technology requiring replacement.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft identity administration.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, Wi-Fi, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Experience with cloud or hybrid backup administration and recovery.
• Windows endpoint troubleshooting and device provisioning skills.
• Competence in endpoint protection, patching, vulnerability remediation, and security incident response.
• Experience supporting VoIP, printers, copiers, scanners, and standard office technology.
• Familiarity with remote monitoring, ticketing, documentation, and change-control tools.
• Minimum seven years of infrastructure and technical support experience.
• Minimum five years supporting Windows servers, networks, backups, endpoints, and Microsoft environments with demonstrated L2/L3 escalation and multi-site field-support experience.
• Experience performing backup restores and responding to endpoint-security incidents.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel among Alameda locations.
• Ability to install and move standard endpoint and network equipment.

Special Considerations:

• Must be available for a minimum of one full business day onsite every week.
• Additional onsite visits required for outages, deployments, security incidents, and approved projects.
• Willingness to perform both senior engineering and hands-on desktop support.
• Ability to serve as the principal technical resource during onsite visits.

Scheduling:

• Part-time/shared assignment with an estimated allocation of 80 96 hours per month.
• Hybrid work arrangement with required onsite presence in Alameda.
