Job description
Transportation Operations Manager
Oversee Transportation Department operations functions to ensure effective and efficient pupil transportation services for the district.
Education/Certifications
High School Diploma or GED Valid license/certification or ability to obtain.
- Texas commercial driver's license (Class B or A) with "P" and "S" endorsements
- Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver certification Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) Supervisor Certification (or higher) preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
Working knowledge of pupil transportation operations Ability to manage personnel Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English Applicable computer skills (experience with Transfinder preferred) Ability to pass Texas Department of Public Safety school bus driver physical exam Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests Must be able to pass criminal history check and MVR driving record check Ability to operate a school bus Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Experience Five years' experience in school bus transportation Training and safety experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
1. Coordinate the daily operations of the Transportation Department to include routing and scheduling, training, and safety functions.
2. Supervise the routing of daily home-to-school routes for regular and special needs programs to ensure safety and compliance.
3. Monitor the dispatch and logistics coordination for daily coverage of routes and scheduling of trips and supplemental services.
4. Manage transportation for McKinney-Vento and foster programs and coordinate with the Outreach Department.
5. Oversee special needs transportation programs and coordinate with the Special Programs Department.
6. Collect and maintain data for the annual Texas Education Agency Transportation Reports.
7. Investigate reported concerns and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
8. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
9. Ensure training program compliance with federal Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements.
10. Enforce and maintain safety standards that conform with state, federal, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventative safety.
11. Assist in investigating school bus accidents and student safety violations.
12. Perform those job duties as outlined in the job description for bus driver, special needs bus driver, and bus monitor as necessary.
13. Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters related to the Transportation Department.
14. Accurate and consistent use of Time Clock Plus (TCP) and Frontline.
15. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
Environment: Frequent districtwide travel
