Job Summary:

As a part-time instructor in the Law Enforcement Academy (LEA), you would be responsible for presenting materials that are required by Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to allow cadets to become certified peace officers in the state of Colorado.

You work individually, as well as in collaboration with colleagues, to develop an innovative curriculum which meets the needs of our diverse population of students. Student retention and success are your top priority. You utilize technology and effective teaching strategies to develop students’ critical thinking skills.

Course assignments are made based on experience, availability, and the needs of the department; as a result, you may be asked to teach at different times, locations and modalities.

This position requires a strong on-campus presence and may require occasional travel to all three FRCC campuses or partner training locations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This posting will be used to fill Assistant, Lead, and Dispatcher Instructor positions within the Law Enforcement Academy.

Assistant Instructors are responsible for assisting in academic credit bearing courses that require embedded scenario training or applied learning skill sessions such as Standard Field Sobriety Training, Shooter Training, Building Search and Seizure Training, Interrogation and Confessions Training, Community Policing/Bias Motivated Hate Crimes Training, and Tactical Casualty Care. ACE Assistants function may be utilized to care for intoxicated participants (required by POST) and/or as scenario actors.

Lead Instructors are responsible for POST mandated units within credit-bearing courses in the FRCC POST Law Enforcement Academy. They design and create lesson plans, create academic course materials and instruct students in their specialty area for a time period of 2 to 32 hours as determined by POST requirements. ACE instructors also create and provide testing/evaluation materials to the Academy director for inclusion in mandatory testing of the cadets. Responsibility for grading the full FRCC community college course will remain with the Academy Director as the instructor of record.

Dispatcher Instructors are responsible for providing instruction in academic credit bearing courses that provide real life experience through radio communication to students on scenario based calls and provide feedback to the students.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A relevant current industry license or certification and 4000 verified occupational/industry hours within seven years.

Related Degree: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Krav Maga, Sociology, Psychology, Police Science, Organizational Leadership Management degrees, J.D. degrees, Masters of Law, Law Enforcement Leadership, POST certification, POST train-the-trainer certification, POST certified skills instructor in Driving or Firearms or Arrest Control (acceptable levels – Subject Matter Expert, Full Skills, or Assistant Skills),Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy (CLETA) training course certification, County Sheriff s of Colorado training certification, Instructor certification and/or experience related to Deescalation and Effective Communication Techniques, CPR, Animal Behavior, Homicide, Assault, Transportation, Traffic Control, Crime Analysis, Drug Recognition, Standard Field Sobriety Testing, Victim’s Rights, Advanced Blood Stains, Certifications related to Colorado Criminal Code, Colorado Children’s Code, Colorado Liquor Code and Controlled Substances and Community Policing, Military police experience, military combat tactical training, and Colorado EMT/Paramedic.

POST Certification & Additional Experience: Some courses may require additional experience including POST certification in the Academy discipline (Full Skills to be Lead of Program or standard instructor certification as an Assistant Skills), sworn or commissioned officer in the past 7 years, or a total of 16,000 related occupation hours as a sworn on commissioned officer within their lifetime.

CTE Credential: This instructor position will be teaching Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. In addition to the qualifications listed above, the selected candidate must have a current CTE credential or the ability to obtain one within one year to teach. Selection Process:

The selection process for this instructor position will be conducted through a competitive, merit-based evaluation of all qualified applicants. Preliminary screening will be based on the completed application package submitted by the candidate.
