Communications Electronics Installation Technician – Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska | Full-Time | Approximately 25% Travel Throughout Alaska

Position Overview

Crown Innovations is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Communications Electronics Installation Technician based in Anchorage, Alaska to support our electronics installation operations throughout the state.

This position requires approximately 25% travel within Alaska and includes a primary workspace based out of Anchorage. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, although non-standard hours may occasionally be required based on site and operational needs.

Due to the geographic nature of the work, this position requires a high level of independence, technical confidence, adaptability, and sound judgment. Technicians may frequently work in geographically isolated locations and must be capable of identifying and implementing practical solutions to unique field conditions.

The Electronics Technician will receive technical guidance from a Technical Manager and/or Engineer; however, the selected candidate will be expected to operate largely in a stand-alone capacity while serving as an on-site Electronics and Communications Subject Matter Expert (SME).

This role extends beyond traditional electronics installation. The technician must be capable of supporting the installation and integration of complete communications systems, including infrastructure, grounding, cabling, radios, antennas, and supporting equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Remove and properly dispose of legacy communications equipment.
  • Connect and integrate Telco requirements, including Commercial Telco, RCL, Field Cable, and Fiber Optics.
  • Conduct electronics testing procedures to verify proper system operation.
  • Coordinate frequency outages with applicable FAA personnel and other stakeholders.
  • Take electronic baseline readings and generate required documentation, including Facility Reference Data Files (FRDF), in accordance with FAA Technical Handbooks and established tolerances.

Infrastructure & Physical Buildout

  • Install new or upgraded electrical conduit and cable trays.
  • Install and assemble equipment racks and supporting infrastructure.
  • Install junction boxes required to support system functionality.
  • Mount, remove, replace, and install antennas as required.
  • Run, terminate, and test coaxial cable and other communications cabling.
  • Install and test grounding systems, lightning protection, and surge protection measures.
  • Perform basic electrical wiring and connections necessary to support communications systems.
  • Ensure infrastructure is properly configured to support equipment installation and operational requirements.

Engineering, Technical & FAA Interface

  • Read, interpret, and implement engineering packages, schematics, blueprints, electrical drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Implement approved field modifications when site conditions require adjustments to engineering plans.
  • Participate in and support pre-installation meetings.
  • Interface directly with FAA Air Traffic and Technical Operations personnel during radio installations and technical refresh activities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment associated with radio replacement and communications modernization projects.
  • Apply working knowledge of electrical and electronic circuitry to resolve installation and operational issues.
  • Work confidently in geographically isolated environments and develop solutions to unique field conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with Technical Managers, Engineers, installation crews, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Technical Experience

  • Demonstrated experience installing, fabricating, maintaining, or supporting Military, Federal, FAA, or Commercial radio and electronic communications equipment.
  • Experience installing or supporting FAA National Airspace System (NAS) communications systems, cabling, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of VHF and UHF AM radios, including software, alignment, and system setup.
  • Experience setting up and supporting Radio Control Equipment (RCE).
  • Understanding of Telco requirements, including Commercial Telco, RCL, Field Cable, and Fiber Optics.
  • Ability to take electronic baseline readings and generate Facility Reference Data Files (FRDF) in accordance with FAA Technical Handbooks and tolerances.
  • Experience interfacing with FAA Air Traffic and Technical Operations personnel during installation activities.
  • Ability to follow engineering packages and implement approved field changes as required.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and electronic circuitry.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability involving electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Proficiency using manual and power tools.
  • Experience using common electronic test equipment, including multimeters, ohmmeters, power meters, oscilloscopes, or similar equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any required federal background investigation or security clearance.
  • Associate’s Degree, Electronics Degree, completion of a two-year technical training or certification program in a relevant field, or at least five years of directly related electronics installation/fabrication experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited onsite supervision.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and solve technical problems in geographically isolated environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, customers, management, and government stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% throughout the state of Alaska.
