Description

Location: Remote
Employment Type: Contract (1099)
Duration: Initial 90 day engagement with the potential for extension or full-time employment based on performance and business needs.

Summit K12 is seeking an experienced Lead Curriculum Designer – Mathematics for an initial 90-day independent contractor engagement to lead the development of our TSIA2 Mathematics curriculum.
This role is ideal for an educator with deep knowledge of Texas high school mathematics and the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2), who enjoys creating high-quality instructional materials and ensuring every lesson meets rigorous academic standards.
As the Lead Curriculum Designer, you will serve as the academic lead for the project, guiding curriculum development from concept through final review. You will collaborate with curriculum writers, instructional designers, product managers, and multimedia teams to develop engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences that prepare students for success on the TSIA2.

This is a fast-paced, highly collaborative engagement requiring exceptional attention to detail, strong instructional judgment, and the ability to manage large volumes of content while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

This engagement is expected to last approximately 90 days. Depending on project needs, performance, and future product initiatives, there may be an opportunity to extend the contract or transition into a full-time role with Summit K12.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for TSIA2 Mathematics content and instructional best practices.
  • Develop and refine curriculum frameworks, learning progressions, and instructional plans.
  • Ensure all instructional materials align with TSIA2 content expectations and college readiness standards.
  • Partner with Curriculum and Product Management teams to translate curriculum goals into scalable instructional experiences.
  • Review curriculum developed by multiple authors for mathematical accuracy, instructional quality, consistency, and alignment.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to writers and ensure revisions meet established quality standards.
  • Maintain consistency in instructional approach, terminology, rigor, and student experience across all curriculum components.
  • Conduct final academic reviews prior to publication.
  • Design and review leveled assessments that accurately measure student understanding and readiness.
  • Develop high-quality practice questions, model solutions, and scoring guidance.
  • Ensure assessments reflect the rigor, format, and expectations of the TSIA2.
Lead development of instructional supports including:
  • Lesson video scripts
  • Worked example problems
  • Student feedback and remediation responses
  • Learning supports and instructional scaffolds
  • Interactive checks for understanding
Collaborate with multimedia production teams to ensure instructional videos accurately and effectively communicate mathematical concepts.

  • Partner closely with Product Managers, curriculum developers, designers, and production teams to meet aggressive project milestones.
  • Identify curriculum gaps, instructional risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in milestone reviews and contribute recommendations that improve instructional effectiveness and learner outcomes.
  • Support iterative reviews and revisions throughout the production process.

To support successful delivery of the project, the contractor will be expected to:
  • Participate in a weekly project status meeting with the Summit K12 team (approximately 30–60 minutes).
  • Provide a brief weekly written progress update summarizing completed work, upcoming priorities, risks, and blockers.
  • Be reasonably available during normal business hours for asynchronous collaboration through email and Slack.
  • Respond to project-related questions and requested reviews within one business day whenever reasonably possible.
  • Participate in milestone reviews and feedback sessions as needed.
  • Proactively communicate any risks or circumstances that may impact agreed-upon milestones or delivery dates.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience teaching high school mathematics in Texas.
  • Deep understanding of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) mathematics content and expectations.
  • Experience developing instructional materials, assessments, or curriculum.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly.
  • Strong proficiency with digital productivity and collaboration tools.
  • Excellent organizational, editing, and project management skills.
  • Experience writing or reviewing digital curriculum.
  • Experience creating assessment items and scoring guidance.
  • Experience developing multimedia learning resources.
  • Curriculum leadership or instructional coaching experience.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms and educational technology.
  • Passionate about helping students build mathematical understanding.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to identify inaccuracies and inconsistencies.
  • Comfortable coaching and improving the work of others through constructive feedback.
  • Thrive in collaborative, fast-moving environments with ambitious production goals.
  • Organized, efficient, and comfortable managing large volumes of digital content.
  • Able to balance speed with quality while consistently delivering high-quality work under tight timelines.
A successful contractor will:
  • Deliver high-quality TSIA2 mathematics curriculum that is accurate, rigorous, and instructionally sound.
  • Maintain consistent academic quality across curriculum developed by multiple contributors.
  • Develop engaging instructional supports that build student confidence and readiness for the TSIA2.
  • Deliver all agreed-upon milestones on schedule and in accordance with Summit K12 quality standards.
  • Serve as the trusted academic expert for the TSIA2 Mathematics product throughout the engagement.
  • Successfully complete the initial 90-day project while establishing a scalable foundation for future curriculum development.
At Summit K12, we believe that every student can do well in school if instruction is tailored to their unique learning needs and they receive the encouragement to strive and achieve. Our learning programs provide teachers with the ability to differentiate instruction, monitor progress, and support learners in their journey toward success.
