We serve individuals, organizations, and communities by offering 30+ customized classes and tailored support to meet our clientele's needs.

Maze of Life operates within an entrepreneur-driven culture, designed for those who value both purpose and progress.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Maze of Life is seeking qualified Domestic Violence Counselors and Facilitators to provide both group and individual services for individuals who have used violence or coercive control in intimate relationships.

This role supports court-ordered and voluntary participants through structured, accountability focused intervention. Group facilitation is the primary modality in accordance with most state standards for Partner Abuse Intervention / Batterer Intervention / Intimate Partner Abuse Education Programs. Individual sessions, when offered, support assessment, progress monitoring, and skill development and do not replace required group participation where prohibited by state guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience working with individuals who have used intimate partner violence or coercive control (group facilitation experience strongly preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
  • Completion of a minimum of 24–40 hours of specialized domestic violence / partner abuse intervention training (Duluth, EMERGE, Family Peace Initiative, or other evidence-based curricula accepted by state standards)
  • Documented experience facilitating or co-facilitating accountability-focused groups (minimum 40 hours preferred; 72 hours preferred to meet the most rigorous state requirements)
  • Strong understanding of power and control dynamics, coercive control, trauma-informed accountability practices, and the clear distinction between anger management and domestic violence intervention
  • Proven ability to facilitate groups effectively, manage group dynamics, confront minimization and denial, and maintain a clear accountability focus without victim blaming or collusion
  • Experience conducting individual assessments and providing structured individual counseling/support sessions when appropriate
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate, confidential records and support court/probation reporting requirements
  • Willingness to complete background checks and meet any state-specific disqualifying criteria
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education (typically 12–20 hours annually)
  • Availability for scheduled group sessions (evenings preferred in many locations) and individual appointments as needed
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience facilitating certified or state-recognized BIP / PAIP / DVIP / IPAEP groups

Familiarity with risk assessment tools, lethality indicators, and coordinated community response

    Bilingual capacity

Current professional license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.) where required by specific states

RESPONSIBILITIES

Group Facilitation

    • Facilitate structured group sessions consistent with evidence-based, accountability focused curricula and applicable state standards

    • Create and maintain a safe, structured group environment that promotes personal responsibility, challenges abusive belief systems, and supports non-violent alternatives • Monitor attendance, participation, and behavioral progress

    Individual Counseling & Support

    • Conduct comprehensive intakes and assessments to identify needs, risk factors, motivations, and barriers to change

    • Provide structured individual counseling and support sessions as assigned to reinforce accountability, skill practice, and progress monitoring

    • Ensure individual work aligns with and supports (rather than replaces) the group intervention model where required by state standards

    Shared Responsibilities

    • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of attendance, progress, and outcomes in compliance with legal and organizational guidelines

    • Support required reporting to courts, probation, and referral sources

    • Collaborate with co-facilitators, program leadership, and community partners while upholding confidentiality and mandated reporting obligations

    • Adhere to program rules that prohibit couples counseling, family counseling, mediation, or anger-management-only approaches within the intervention

    • Participate in required training, supervision, and quality assurance processes

    • Maintain professional boundaries and model respectful, non-abusive behavior at all times

    • Cross-train in related departmental functions as needed to support operational flexibility

TO APPLY

If you are committed to holding individuals accountable for intimate partner abuse while supporting meaningful behavior change through both group facilitation and individual counseling, we invite you to apply.

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter that includes:

• Your relevant group facilitation and individual counseling experience

• Specialized domestic violence / partner abuse intervention training completed

• Any state-specific certifications or credentials

Maze of Life is an equal opportunity organization. We value counselors and facilitators who bring cultural competence, integrity, and a strong commitment to survivor safety and offender accountability.
