Westchester General Hospital -

POSITION SUMMARY:

To prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing a variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses, and

administers doses, under the direction of physician.

2. Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using cameras to

detect radiation emitted and produce image of organ on photographic film.

3. Measures radioactivity, using dose calibrator.

4. Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.

5. Participates in QC, safety, and infection control studies as assigned.

6. May be required to vary shifts and / or weekend rotation as the needs of the department

dictate.

7. May include overtime if approved by Director.

8. May be crossed trained in other areas where applicable

Skills and Abilities:

• Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.

• Understand technical information from supervisors' charts reference books, manuals, and labels.

• Work fast in an emergency observing safety at all times.

• Communicate with people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous.

• Change from one duty to another frequently.

• Follow instructions exactly.

• Record information accurately.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Physical Demands:

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly moving objects.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Environmental Conditions:

Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Hazards: Subject to exposure to electrical and radiant energy hazards.

Reasoning, Mathematical and Language Development are indicative of the general level of development required to do this job.

Reasoning Development:

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Relationships to Data, People and Things:

Data: Compiling, gathering, collating, or classifying information about data, people or

things. Reporting and / or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information are

frequently involved.

People: Speaking-Signaling; Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange

information. Includes giving assignments and directions to helpers or assistants.

Things: Precision Working: Using body members and / or tools or work aids to work,

move, guide or place objects or materials in situations where ultimate responsibility for

the attainment of standards occurs and selection of appropriate tools, objects or materials

and the adjustment of the tool to the task requires exercise of considerable judgment.

Specific Vocational Preparation:

• Graduation from an accredited program of nuclear medicine technology.

To do this job, you must have the following licenses or certifications before being hired:

• Current Florida Radiologic Technologist license.

• BLS certification

To do this job, you must have the following amount of total education and / or experience.

• Minimum of one year experience.
