Job description

K-12 MTSS Specialist

The K-12 MTSS Specialist is responsible for developing, modeling, implementing, monitoring, and collaborating with administrators and other educators in the district wide integration and implementation of MTSS. They will work to provide knowledge, guidance, and support to building level administrators, general education teachers, and Student Support Services staff in implementation of a district-wide MTSS Framework and help review and support the implementation of evidence-based intervention systems and MTSS practices designed to improve outcomes for identified at-risk students. The MTSS Specialist collaborates with school teams and community partners to support services and interventions for identified at-risk students. The primary purpose of this position is to support the implementation of evidence-based academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional interventions for students identified as at risk.

Job Goals:

  • Systems Implementation: Sustains MTSS practices, ensuring consistency across buildings.
  • Promote: Advocate for equitable access to evidence-based instructional and behavioral supports for at-risk students.
  • Data Analysis & Monitoring: Reviews student data to identify at-risk students and monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Professional Development: Train teachers and staff on evidence-based practices, intervention strategies, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Coaching & Support: Provides coaching and support to MTSS facilitators, coaches, and building level teams.
  • Support problem-solving teams as they build support for improvement plans based on aggregated achievement, behavior, and attendance data.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Acts as a liaison between administrators, staff, and families, communicating monthly with district leadership.
  • Collaborate with HPS staff and community to address issues and opportunities of equity that impact student learning.
  • Work collaboratively to cultivate district-wide expertise to eliminate achievement, equity gaps, and develop proactive ways of building a more equitable system.
  • Create: Support equitable intervention systems that improve student engagement, belonging, attendance, and academic success for at-risk students.
  • Compliance: Ensures that interventions and processes adhere to state, federal, and district guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate (Master's Degree Required, Administrative/Leadership Certificate Preferred)
  • Leadership and coaching experience
  • Deep knowledge of content area standards
  • Knowledge of standards-based education
  • Knowledge in Trauma Informed and Restorative Practices
  • Required extensive knowledge and experience in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation, conflict resolution, and student & adult learning.
  • Demonstrated skills in data gathering and analysis, project planning and evaluation.
  • Ability to make appropriate data-based decisions.
  • Ability to facilitate professional learning related to content areas.
  • Excellent oral, written, and public speaking communication skills
  • Ability to use word processing and spreadsheets.
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to keep up to date, adapt to, and master new processes as implemented by the district, state, or federal mandates.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, District policies, building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Knowledge of social emotional learning and culturally responsive instruction
  • Demonstrate a commitment to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity; include and engage families in the student's education; support all Hamtramck School District policies, procedures, and expectations; provide personal and professional excellence.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide knowledge, guidance, coaching and support to building level administrators, general education teachers and Student Support Services staff on MTSS implementation.
  • Communicate with identified stakeholders working on MTSS, Data, and Problem-Solving Teams to implement the MTSS models which includes identified approaches including RTI, RP & PBIS.
  • Provide training and ongoing coaching to teachers, intervention staff, and administrators supporting at-risk students through the MTSS framework.
  • Working to implement and sustain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive integrated MTSS framework.
  • Attend ongoing MTSS training, professional development, and coordinator meetings.
  • Analyze and utilize student and teacher data to guide data-based decision making and enhance direct instruction.
  • Support teachers in identifying student needs and providing appropriate interventions.
  • Create and implement structures for collaboration across the district and building level administrators/teachers to ensure quality programming for students with academic and behavioral needs in accordance with district, state and federal guidelines.
  • Implement and evaluate evidence-based intervention practices for students with academic, behavioral, and attendance needs, including the development of additional pathways for student learning.
  • Participate in department, team, building, and district meetings and discussions, social, cultural, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities and professional growth opportunities.
  • Identify and allocate resources based on programming needs.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the district's vision for student achievement.
  • Facilitate collaboration with instructional, student support, multilingual, and special education teams to coordinate student interventions and supports.
  • Plan, support, and lead district committees as needed.
  • Collaboratively work with colleagues and identified school personnel to reflect, assess, determine, and recommend best practices of data collection and access.
  • Review, research, and coordinate the selection of instructional/program materials and resources associated with MTSS.
  • Support continuous improvement of MTSS procedures and intervention practices aligned to state requirements and district student support goals.
  • Communicate intervention processes and MTSS support information to school staff and families.
  • Lead building MTSS Coordinators in best practices for working together at the building level.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Achievement, the superintendent or designee.

Salary: $92,700 - $137,219 per the Non-Represented Staff Salary Schedule, commensurate with education and experience; Grant Funding (31a)
