Welcome to Prairie! The College Community School District's programs are located on an 800 acre site on the SW side of Cedar Rapids. The central campus site is unique for a district our size and source of great pride. The Prairie campus consists of five elementary schools (K-4), an intermediate school (5-6), middle school (7-9), high school (10-12), Early Childhood Center, and three off-site programs. The College Community School District serves 5,800 students from Linn, Benton, and Johnson counties. The 137 square mile district includes the cities of Ely, Fairfax, Shueyville, Swisher, Walford and SW Cedar Rapids. We take great pride in our parent and community support. This support and active engagement in our schools and district is high valued. We strive to develop close relationships with students and parents so that our students feel safe and connected. We take great pride in our Prairie schools which are made up of great staff, high performing students, supportive parents, and community members who value the importance of a quality education. In addition, the support of our community through the passing of a bond referendum has allowed us to expand and remodel our current buildings, build a new 5/6 building which opened in the fall of 2023, and our new 9th Grade Center and Delta site that opened in the fall of 2024. The College Community School District's vision of "Success for All" is the foundation of the District's personalized learning system. Personalized learning is a progressively learner-driven model in which learners deeply engage in meaningful, authentic, and rigorous challenges to demonstrate desired outcomes. Our teachers collaborate to design learning environments that are equitable, engaging, and empowering by providing students with opportunities for voice, co-creation, social construction, and self-discovery. A combination of targeted instruction, data-driven decisions, flexible content and tools, and student reflection and ownership ensures that each student receives what they need when they need it. In addition, the College Community School District recognizes the importance of education beyond high school and strive to prepare our students for success in their post-secondary education/training choices. This includes the essential skills and competencies that along with postsecondary education/training prepares our students for success in their future careers.
