Position SummaryThe Certified Teacher/Study Table Instructor provides structured academic assistance and enrichment to students in grades 6–8 enrolled in the Edwin Joel Brown Scholars of H.O.P.E. Afterschool Program.The instructor will help students complete homework, strengthen foundational academic skills, prepare for classroom assignments and assessments, and participate in engaging enrichment activities in mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and English language arts.The Study Table Instructor works closely with the Education and Curriculum Coach to ensure that academic support and enrichment activities are intentional, engaging, grade-appropriate, and aligned with program learning goals and students' identified needs.The ideal candidate is a certified teacher who understands the academic and developmental needs of middle school students and can create a supportive, engaging, and well-managed learning environment. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Study Table Instructor will:Provide academic instruction and support Monday through Thursday from 2:15–3:30 p.m.Assist students with completing, reviewing, and understanding homework assignments.Provide individual and small-group instruction in mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and English language arts.Develop and facilitate academic enrichment activities that reinforce grade-level skills and classroom learning.Collaborate regularly with the Education and Curriculum Coach to plan and implement high-quality academic support and enrichment activities.Use curriculum resources, instructional materials, pacing guidance, and feedback provided by the Education and Curriculum Coach.Share information about student progress, academic challenges, instructional needs, and successful teaching strategies with the Education and Curriculum Coach.Participate in curriculum-planning sessions, instructional coaching, and professional-development activities as required.Help students strengthen reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and study skills.Review challenging concepts and provide additional instruction based on students' academic needs.Help students prepare for quizzes, tests, projects, presentations, and other classroom assignments.Teach students effective study habits, organization, time management, note-taking, and assignment-tracking strategies.Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and develop confidence as independent learners.Differentiate instruction and academic support based on students' abilities, learning styles, and individual needs.Use age-appropriate instructional strategies and materials that engage middle school students.Maintain a structured, positive, inclusive, and academically focused study-table environment.Establish and consistently reinforce clear expectations for participation, behavior, respectful communication, and use of program materials.Monitor student participation, academic progress, behavior, and overall engagement.Maintain accurate daily attendance and participation records.Track homework completion, academic needs, student progress, and areas requiring additional supportmunicate student progress, academic concerns, missing assignments, and instructional needs to the Education and Curriculum Coach, Academic Site Coordinator, and other designated program leaders.Collaborate with the Academic Site Coordinator to align study-table instruction with program goals and identified student needs.Coordinate with the Site Lead regarding attendance, schedules, student concerns, classroom needs, safety procedures, and daily site operations.Collaborate with the SEL Site Coordinator and program staff to support positive behavior, student motivation, conflict resolution, and social-emotional developmentmunicate professionally and respectfully with parents and guardians when requested or authorized by program leadership.Maintain the confidentiality of student records, academic information, and family information.Ensure that instructional materials, supplies, technology, and program spaces are used appropriately and maintained in an organized manner.Follow all Omega Community Development Corporation, school, and Scholars of H.O.P.E. policies and procedures.Follow all safety, emergency, incident-reporting, confidentiality, and child-protection requirements.Participate in required orientations, training sessions, staff meetings, program-planning meetings, and special activitiesplete other academic or program-related duties as assigned by the Director of Out of School Time Programs or Omega Community Development Corporation leadership. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)Candidates must:Hold a valid teaching license or certification.Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Have experience teaching or providing academic support to middle school students.Demonstrate proficiency in supporting students in mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and English language arts.Have experience providing homework assistance, tutoring, differentiated instruction, or academic enrichment.Understand the academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of students in grades 6–8.Demonstrate effective classroom-management and student-engagement skills.Be able to explain academic concepts clearly using multiple instructional approaches.Be willing and able to collaborate with the Education and Curriculum Coach and implement instructional guidance and feedbackmunicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with students, parents, school personnel, program staff, and organizational leadership.Possess strong organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and recordkeeping skills.Demonstrate patience, dependability, flexibility, sound judgment, and professionalism.Be able to pass required Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks.Be consistently available Monday through Thursday from 2:15–3:30 p.m. throughout the August 2026–May 2027 contract period.Be available for occasional additional hours for required meetings, training sessions, family events, and special program activities. Preferred QualificationsPreference may be given to candidates who:Hold a current Ohio teaching license.Are licensed or endorsed in middle childhood education or one or more of the identified academic subjects.Have previous experience teaching students in grades 6–8.Have experience working in an afterschool, tutoring, intervention, summer-learning, or youth-development program.Have experience collaborating with an instructional coach, curriculum specialist, or academic intervention team.Have experience using student data to plan targeted instruction and academic interventions.Have experience supporting students with varying learning needs and academic skill levels.Hold current certifications in CPR, first aid, child-abuse recognition, or related health and safety areas. Physical Demands and Work Environment The Study Table Instructor must be able to:Work in an active school and afterschool environment with middle school students.Remain seated or standing for extended periods while providing instruction.Move throughout the classroom to monitor and assist students.Use computers, instructional technology, textbooks, and other educational materials.Lift and carry instructional materials and supplies, with or without reasonable accommodation.Respond promptly and appropriately during emergencies or unexpected situations.
