• We are currently seeking professional, customer-focused Medical Support Assistants to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS).
• This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping Veterans access quality healthcare services.
• Position Summary The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) serves as the first point of contact for Veterans and plays an essential role in coordinating patient care.
• Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, managing patient communications, maintaining electronic medical records, supporting Community Care referrals, and ensuring Veterans receive timely, professional service.
• Successful candidates are organized, detail-oriented, compassionate, and thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Essential Duties & Responsibilities Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments in accordance with VA scheduling guidelines.
• Greet and check in Veterans while providing outstanding customer service.
• Answer and route incoming telephone calls professionally and courteously.
• Coordinate Community Care referrals and authorizations.
• Process consults utilizing HealthShare Referral Manager (HSRM), Provider Profile Management System (PPMS), CPRS, and VistA.
• Update patient demographic, insurance, and emergency contact information.
• Enter and maintain accurate patient records within VA electronic health record systems.
• Monitor appointment recalls, reminders, cancellations, and no-show reports.
• Receive and process medical records into the VA electronic record.
• Collaborate with providers, nurses, and clinic staff to coordinate patient care.
• Utilize Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams daily.
• Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and VA privacy regulations.
• Complete additional administrative and scheduling duties as assigned.
• Minimum Qualifications U.S.
• Citizen.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum six (6) months of customer service experience.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
