Engineering Technician

About Acron Aviation (Avionics Surveillance):

Acron Aviation designs, engineers, and manufactures certified avionics systems that support safety-critical flight operations across commercial and military aviation. Within Avionics, the Surveillance product line develops and sustains systems that enable aircraft awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace interoperability. Our portfolio includes TCAS, Mode S transponders, ADS-B, and integrated surveillance solutions deployed across commercial, military, and rotorcraft platforms. This work is performed in highly regulated environments and demands deep expertise across systems, hardware, software, testing, and RF throughout the full product lifecycle.

Job Title

Engineering Technician Surveillance

Position Summary

The Engineering Technician C is an experienced technician who works closely with Design Engineering, Qualification Engineering, and Test Engineering teams while also providing overflow support to Manufacturing and Quality organizations on both existing and new products.

Work is performed primarily within the Engineering Lab, an ESD- and FOD-controlled environment. This role is responsible for component-level rework, electrical testing, troubleshooting, circuit card assembly support, test fixture prototyping, and laboratory maintenance activities. The Engineering Technician will also champion laboratory 5S practices, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help maintain engineering equipment, calibration systems, and laboratory readiness.

Assignments frequently originate directly from engineering teams, requiring the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting fast-paced product development and testing activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read schematics and mechanical drawings to assemble prototype equipment from released documentation and preliminary designs
  • Create redline markup drawings for test equipment and wire harnesses
  • Perform soldering and rework of through-hole (PTH) and surface-mount (SMT) electronic assemblies
  • Assemble wire harnesses, test fixtures, and prototype hardware
  • Conduct electrical testing and troubleshooting of digital, analog, power supply, and RF circuits
  • Support checkout, debugging, and qualification of circuit card assemblies and test stations
  • Adhere to established ESD and FOD controls and support Lab 5S activities
  • Maintain laboratory organization, efficiency, and readiness through continuous improvement initiatives
  • Perform functional testing and document results under environmental test conditions in accordance with approved test procedures
  • Load embedded software and firmware to support functional verification and testing activities
  • Assist engineers with part research, sourcing activities, and procurement support
  • Coordinate engineering equipment calibration activities through approved third-party providers
  • Support maintenance, repair, and calibration of lab measurement and rework equipment
  • Assist in rapid prototyping of printed circuit boards and development of board-level test stations
  • Support off-site testing activities when required

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate Degree or equivalent two-year post-secondary education with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Experience with soldering, rework, assembly, and troubleshooting of electronic assemblies
  • Experience supporting laboratory, test, manufacturing, or engineering environments
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience working in an electronics or avionics manufacturing environment operating under ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality systems
  • IPC and J-STD soldering certifications or willingness to obtain certification
  • Experience troubleshooting digital, analog, power supply, and RF circuits
  • Familiarity with embedded software or firmware loading processes
  • Experience using 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER, or similar tools
  • Experience using PCB layout tools such as PCB123, Altium Designer, ExpressPCB, or equivalent
  • Experience operating and supporting 3D printing equipment
  • Experience supporting engineering development, qualification, or environmental testing activities
  • Strong commitment to continuous improvement, laboratory organization, and operational excellence
