Job description
Sports Performance Psychologist

Reef Systems is seeking to identify a collaborative team (Physical Therapist/Injury Manager, Athletic Trainer (Certified) ATC, Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Sports Performance Psychologist) to provide Human Performance Program Services performing injury prevention and mitigation, rehabilitation services, and human performance optimization services to personnel assigned to the 125th Special Tactics Squadron (STS) in Portland, OR.

Schedule:
Services are to be provided between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Monday through Friday and during the squadron’s Regularly Scheduled Drills (RSDs), except on recognized holidays or when the Government facility/installation is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government-directed facility/installation closings.

Personal Time Off:
Additionally, Reef Systems provides ten (10) days of personal time off (PTO).

Performance Requirements:
  • Develop, plan, and initiate resiliency programs for preventing and treating behavioral health issues to support all aspects of ST operator readiness and resilience, to include working with operators and their families regarding family life and readiness issues. This will be accomplished in coordination with the monthly reported unit-specific Human Performance Program requirements and long-term objectives based on the unit’s specific mission requirements.
  • Develop, plan, and initiate performance enhancement individualized and group-oriented programs for development and support of peak performance of individual ST operators and unit ST Teams in all aspects of life, with an emphasis on those factors that intersect with their professional duties and performance. This should take into account SOCOM’s four pillars of POTFF which are the physical, mental, social, and spiritual facets. This will be accomplished in coordination with the monthly reported unit-specific Human Performance Program requirements and long-term objectives based on the unit’s specific mission requirements.
  • Conduct, administer, and interpret a full spectrum of psychological assessment tools and consult with command personnel. This will be accomplished in coordination with the monthly reported unit-specific Human Performance Program requirements and long-term objectives based on the unit’s specific mission requirements.
  • Manage relevant process improvement, program validation, and related research. This will be accomplished in coordination with the monthly reported unit-specific Human Performance Program requirements and long-term objectives based on the unit’s specific mission requirements.
  • Referrals and disposition of referrals for behavioral healthcare will be accomplished within 2 business days of request.
  • Function as liaison and coordinate with base and other military psychological professionals.
  • Provide technical expertise, consultation, and direct support in the areas of operational support, human performance enhancement, and the provision of clinical services to unit members within 1 business day for non-crisis situations.
  • Conduct baseline and post-event neuropsychological screening and collect/analyze data and monitor trends in psychological health within 24 hours of request.
  • Have a documented plan for response to suicide intervention at all times. The plan is required as part of the strategic Human Performance Program plan.
  • Have a documented crisis response and follow-up care plan in the event of unit casualties or other serious incidents at all times. The plan is required as part of the strategic Human Performance Program plan.
  • Have a documented plan for response to significant life event crises at all times. The plan is required as part of the strategic Human Performance Program plan.
  • Have a documented plan for performance consultation with individual ST operators that allows for confidential engagement not associated with individual documentation of any kind. However, the performance psychologist can determine documentation needs on a case-by-case basis. The plan is required as part of the strategic Human Performance Program plan.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Sports/Performance Psychology from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid state license to practice psychology and demonstrate a working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of sports or performance psychology programs.
  • Member in good standing of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Shall maintain certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) from the AASP. Prior experience working with physicians providing medical psychological services especially in military or elite athlete populations is preferred.
  • Required to receive and maintain clinical practice privileges as either a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Those personnel providing Sports Performance Psychology services shall maintain a BLS certification to be credentialed.
  • Experience and training in the assessment and treatment of alcohol and substance abuse conditions, domestic violence, child abuse, post-traumatic stress, suicide intervention, mood and anxiety conditions, and family/marital issues.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working with elite athletes within the military SOF community, NCAA, or professional sports.
