HR Director – Employee Effectiveness Location: DFW |
Onsite 5 days per week Salary: $190 – 220K Lead Employee Relations & Interim Talent & Employee Experience We are seeking an accomplished
HR Director with recent leadership experience within a large, complex healthcare system to step into a highly visible interim leadership role during an important period of organizational change.
This is not a traditional assignment focused on maintaining the status quo. We need a
turnkey, strategic and hands-on HR leader who understands what a high-performing healthcare HR organization looks like and can quickly assess the current environment, strengthen HR team capabilities, and help leaders translate workforce challenges into effective people strategies.
The HR Director will temporarily oversee two critical areas of HR:
Employee Relations/HR Business Partnership and
Talent Management, Employee Engagement, and Learning & Development. Employee Relations represents the most immediate need; however, the ideal candidate will bring a core strength in one of these areas with meaningful leadership depth across the other.
Key Responsibilities Employee Relations & Strategic HR Partnership - Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Employee Relations and HR Business Partner teams, strengthening their ability to operate as proactive business advisors rather than transactional HR resources.
- Lead and provide guidance on complex employee relations matters, workplace investigations, performance concerns, corrective actions, conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and sensitive workforce issues.
- Coach HR professionals to understand the business behind workforce requests, ask the right questions, challenge assumptions appropriately, and provide leaders with thoughtful, business-focused recommendations.
- Partner with executives and operational leaders on organizational restructures, workforce changes, employee issues, and other complex people decisions, ensuring recommendations are strategically sound and executive-ready.
- Identify patterns across employee relations activity, turnover, leadership effectiveness, and workforce data and develop proactive solutions that address root causes.
- Assess the capabilities of the existing HR/ER team, develop talent where appropriate, establish accountability, and identify opportunities to strengthen overall team effectiveness.
Talent Management & Learning and Development - Provide strategic leadership across Talent Management, Learning & Development, leadership development, succession planning, and employee growth.
- Assess organizational capability and development needs and translate those needs into practical learning and talent strategies.
- Introduce and/or strengthen talent-management practices such as talent reviews, 9-box assessments, succession planning, high-potential identification, career pathways, and individual development planning.
- Partner with leaders to identify employee capability gaps and create meaningful development plans that prepare employees for future opportunities—not simply identify potential next roles.
- Strengthen manager and leadership capability through targeted development, coaching, learning plans, and practical leadership tools.
- Ensure healthcare-specific learning and development needs, including required/compliance-based learning, are effectively incorporated into the broader development strategy.
Employee Engagement & Experience - Translate employee engagement survey results and workforce feedback into targeted, measurable action plans, with particular focus on high-turnover or high-need areas.
- Partner with leaders to strengthen employee trust, retention, communication, recognition, and overall employee experience.
- Provide both strategic leadership and hands-on support for employee engagement initiatives, including recognition programs, employee events, appreciation activities, and organization-wide engagement efforts.
- Ensure engagement initiatives are well planned, effectively executed, and connected to broader organizational culture and retention objectives.
Change Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness - Step into an evolving HR environment and quickly establish priorities, clarify roles, and provide stability and direction to teams.
- Partner with senior leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, change management, leadership effectiveness, and organizational development.
- Evaluate existing HR programs, processes, tools, and practices and identify practical opportunities for immediate improvement.
- Bring proven healthcare HR practices, frameworks, and tools that can be adapted and implemented quickly.
- Balance long-term strategic thinking with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and personally drive execution when needed.
Required Qualifications - 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant HR leadership experience at the Director level or equivalent.
- Recent HR leadership experience within a large, complex hospital or healthcare system is required, ideally within the last five years.
- Deep expertise in Employee Relations and/or strategic HR Business Partnership, including experience with complex investigations, performance matters, organizational changes, and executive consultation.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing HR Business Partners and/or Employee Relations professionals and elevating teams from transactional support to strategic business partnership.
- Meaningful leadership depth across Talent Management, Learning & Development, Employee Engagement, and/or Organizational Development.
- Experience with talent practices such as succession planning, leadership development, talent reviews, career development, high-potential identification, or 9-box methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to advise and appropriately challenge senior executives and operational leaders on complex workforce and organizational matters.
- Experience using workforce data, employee feedback, and organizational trends to identify issues and develop actionable strategies.
- Strong change-management and organizational-effectiveness experience.
- Ability to quickly assess an organization, establish credibility, prioritize competing needs, and deliver results in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong executive communication, judgment, coaching, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Must be comfortable operating at both the strategic and hands-on execution levels.
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting large employee populations across multiple hospitals, clinical operations, or healthcare service lines.
- Experience entering an organization during significant change, transformation, leadership transition, or HR functional restructuring.
- Experience building or transforming HRBP, Employee Relations, Talent Management, or Learning & Development functions.
- Experience developing scalable leadership tools, talent frameworks, and employee-development programs.
