Java Developer / Distributed Systems, AI, AWS / Hybrid - Irvine, CA

We are partnered with one of the world's largest investment management firms, overseeing more than $2 trillion in assets across global markets. Their technology organization is investing heavily in cloud modernization, AI-assisted engineering, and next-generation trading platforms that support critical front-office operations. They are seeking a Java Back-End Developer to join a team responsible for building and modernizing trading, cash management, and collateral management systems used by portfolio managers, traders, and operations teams.

This is an opportunity to work directly with front-office stakeholders while developing high-performance, cloud-native applications that support mission-critical financial systems. The ideal candidate has strong Java development experience, an interest in AI-powered engineering tools, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where technology directly impacts investment decisions and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based microservices supporting trading, cash management, and collateral platforms (35%)
• Build new cloud-native applications and contribute to ongoing AWS migration and modernization initiatives (25%)
• Develop and maintain REST APIs, event-driven services, and distributed systems using modern engineering practices (15%)
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality, testing, documentation, and engineering productivity (15%)
• Partner directly with portfolio managers, traders, and operations teams to deliver business-critical technology solutions (10%)

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in Java back-end development
• Strong experience building microservices and RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and distributed systems
• Exposure to AWS and cloud-native technologies such as containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation
• Experience with modern software development practices including TDD, automated testing, and DevOps methodologies
• Interest or experience utilizing AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, LLMs, or similar technologies to improve development workflows
• Strong problem-solving abilities and desire to work in a fast-paced business environment
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

The Offer

• $140,000 - $170,000 base salary plus performance bonus
• Hybrid schedule in Newport Beach, CA (3-4 days onsite per week)
• Work hours approximately 7:30 AM - 3:30/4:00 PM PST
