Job description
Position Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMTEC) faculty performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of the Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute (HSEWI). The primary program role filled by this faculty position is NMTEC Adjunct Professor as the primary instructor for several didactic courses in the nuclear medicine curriculum. This role may also include visiting students in their clinical placements in the Central Puget Sound region. Other responsibilities include establishing and assessing student learning outcomes; advising students; maintaining current knowledge and skills in area of assignment; building collaborative relationships with clinical sites, the BC community and the community at large; and demonstrating a strong commitment to student success and fostering a positive, caring learning environment where diversity and pluralism are valued.
Depending on the expertise, the specific teaching assignments could change.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

Compensation is $43.80 - $53.78 per hour. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter.

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the Department

The Nuclear Medicine Technology program is the only one of its kind in the state of Washington, educating technologists for both diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy. The professional curriculum is covered over 6 quarters and includes both didactic and considerable clinical training. Almost all program graduates have gone on to pass credentialing exams and work in the field.

Essential Functions
  • Teach assigned courses and laboratory sessions in accordance with program needs, using a variety of instructional strategies, innovative teaching techniques, technology, and current research to support student learning outcomes and assessment.
  • Facilitate teaching and learning in nuclear medicine technology in both classroom and virtual learning environments.
  • Assess student learning in classroom and clinical settings and provide timely, constructive written and verbal feedback.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of didactic and clinical courses in relation to established course and program learning outcomes.
  • Provide the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator with timely reports regarding student progress following assigned clinical visits.
  • Participate in professional development activities related to teaching and learning theory, nuclear medicine technology education, and advances in the field.
  • Maintain required professional-technical credentials and current nuclear medicine certification.
  • Support student success and contribute to college-wide pluralism, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, integrating these principles into the activities and practices of the Nuclear Medicine program.
  • Attend twice-yearly Nuclear Medicine Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Attend quarterly Clinical Coordinator meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Active certification/credential as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in nuclear medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Nuclear Medicine Technology students in a clinical setting.
  • Professional development activities and/or academic experience focused on teaching or supporting adult learners.
  • Current CT certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
