About the Role

Base is hiring a specialist to build and manage Base's relationships with local governments and regulators across the country. The role entails becoming the face of Base to mayors, city councils, municipal leaders, and local stakeholdersbuilding deep, trusting relationships that introduce Base to communities and demonstrate how our products solve real problems for constituents. This is a high-ownership ground game. You'll develop a strategic approach to local engagement, construct coalitions of local leaders and community stakeholders, and manage the complex logistics of maintaining relationships across multiple cities and states.

You'll be a member of the Legal, Regulatory, Policy team and will work closely with operations, community relations, and product teams to understand Base's work on the ground and articulate it clearly to local decision-makers.

What You'll Do

• Own Base's local-government affairs strategy across assigned regions and marketsidentifying priority cities and municipalities, building relationships with mayors and city officials, and creating a pipeline of opportunities for Base to support local infrastructure and economic goals.

• Represent Base as the primary point of contact with local governments, attending city council meetings, municipal forums, and community events; developing materials and briefings that position Base as a credible partner for energy reliability and affordability, and grid modernization.

• Identify policy barriers or opportunities at the local level (zoning, permitting, incentive programs, procurement policies), recommend solutions that enable Base to operate effectively, and execute on those recommendations.

• Travel regularly across assigned states to meet with local leaders, understand their challenges firsthand, and present Base's solutions in plain language; develop briefing materials, one-pagers, and pitch decks tailored to municipal audiences.

• Translate Base's technical products and capabilities into terms that resonate with mayors, council members, and everyday constituentsexplaining why distributed batteries matter for their communities.

• Develop and pitch coalition strategies that connect local government priorities (reliability, affordability, resilience, job creation, tax base) with Base's products; identify and recruit local partnerscommunity organizations, business groups, labor unions, environmental advocatesto amplify support.

• Build and maintain a rigorous tracking system for relationships, commitments, and follow-upsmanaging contact information, conversation histories, and next steps so nothing falls through the cracks as you work across dozens of municipalities.

What You'll Bring

• 2-3 years of experience in local government relations, community organizing, public affairs, or campaign work with a track record of building relationships and winning support for initiativesexperience in energy, infrastructure, or economic development is a plus but not required.

• Existing relationships with mayors, city officials, or local stakeholders, or demonstrated ability to quickly build trust with local leaders and community figures.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skillsyou can explain complex products to non-technical audiences, write clear and persuasive materials for local government, and speak confidently in front of city councils and community gatherings.

• Comfort with ambiguity and strong project-management disciplineability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, stay organized across dozens of relationships without an extensive support system, and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment.

• Self-starter instincts and genuine interest in understanding communitiescuriosity about local economies, politics, and what matters to people in different regions; comfort traveling frequently to different cities and states.

• Strong interpersonal skills and strategic thinkingability to read a room, build coalitions, find common ground, and be an effective face for Base in diverse local contexts.

• Comfort with systems and datayou'll build and maintain your own tracking tools to manage relationships, keep notes on conversations, and ensure follow-through.

About the Team

Policy is a small, high-ownership function inside Legal, Regulatory, and Policy (LRP). We exist to shape the rules of the roadworking with state legislatures, utility commissions, local governments, and other agencies to build a regulatory environment where distributed energy resources can be fully utilized to increase energy reliability and affordability for everyday Americans. Our work sits at the intersection of policy, politics, and grid infrastructure, and the outcomes we drive help set the bounds of Base's success.
