Job description

Philanthropy Officer

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is hiring a Philanthropy Officer to join our Development Team! When you work for Planned Parenthood, you make a difference in the lives of those we serve by affirming the human right to reproductive health care and freedom. Our mission is to provide, promote, and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care. PPCW is the largest non-profit family planning and reproductive rights organization in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The Philanthropy Officer plays an integral role in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors. The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for developing relationships with current and prospective donors to achieve fundraising goals that support the long-term health of the organization, while incorporating community-centric fundraising and an equity lens. This role will represent PPCW through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts and events, while educating and informing donors about PPCW's programmatic goals, campaigns, successes, and future endeavors. At PPCW, Development work is fast-paced and ever-changing, sustained by a supportive and communicative team, and a genuine dedication to the mission. This position serves as PPCW's primary philanthropic and community-facing leader in the Mid-Willamette Valley, North Willamette Valley, and Washington County (aka the "service area"). Based in Salem, the Philanthropy Officer will fundraiser, act as a visible spokesperson for PPCW, and support multi-year and capital fundraising campaigns. The role requires strong regional relationship-building, and proactive identification of new donor opportunities across a geographically diverse service area. Compensation: Pay range is $75,004.80 - $109,304.00, depending upon experience. Benefits include up to 4 weeks of paid time off, 9 paid holidays, 403b retirement account with matching, Employee Assistance Program, medical, dental, and vision coverage at no (or low) cost to the employee, employee referral bonuses, ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities, public service loan forgiveness eligibility, and access to group life insurance, disability insurance, and other supplemental benefits.

Schedule: Full-time 40 hrs/wk, Monday Friday. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Schedule details and schedule flexibility will be discussed in the interview process. This position is based in Salem, Oregon. Regular travel required throughout the Mid-Willamette Valley, the North Willamette Valley and Washington County to in-person donor meetings and events; travel to Portland required for strategic Development Team collaboration.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of four years of professional major gift fundraising experience including individual face-to-face solicitations within higher education, health care, social service, or similar nonprofit organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Capital campaign experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Fundraising & donor management
    • Employ community-centric fundraising principles and in-person donor relationship building strategies to raise funds to support PPCW's mission, including successful execution of a three year, $3M capital campaign.
    • Develop and implement strategies to successfully qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a dynamic portfolio of mid & major gift prospects and donors to grow donations of $10,000+.
    • Recruit and manage high-level volunteers to serve on regional fundraising committees, including a capital campaign committee.
    • Oversee regional fundraising events to acquire new donors, cultivate relationships, and advance philanthropic support.
  • Capital Campaign Management
    • Support capital campaign planning and execution, including donor prospect research, gift table development, and cultivation/solicitation strategy for campaign-level gifts.
    • Coordinate with campaign leadership to track progress against campaign goals and timelines, including alignment with health center renovation milestones.
    • Prepare campaign materials, proposals, and stewardship communications tailored to capital campaign donors, ensuring consistency with the campaign's case for support.
  • External representation and donor acquisition:
    • Expand the major donor pipeline by identifying, qualifying, and building relationships with prospective supporters through referrals, networking, and collaboration with PPCW staff, leadership, and regional volunteers.
    • Develop and lead donor engagement strategies and opportunities that connect new audiences to PPCW's mission and create pathways for deeper philanthropic involvement.
    • Build relationships with community leaders, volunteers, donors, businesses, and partner organizations to strengthen PPCW's regional network and philanthropic partnerships.
    • Act as a spokesperson and visible community leader for PPCW in the service area.
    • Represent PPCW at key community, civic, philanthropic, and social events to increase organizational visibility, credibility, and support.
  • Partnership with organizational leaders:
    • Develop and sustain relationships with internal leadership as well as program and health center staff.
    • Work with PPCW's executive leadership and members of the Board of Directors, and volunteers on donor acquisition, solicitation or stewardship opportunities.
    • Ensure development activities in the service area are aligned and coordinated with PPCW's statewide fundraising strategies, messaging, and campaign priorities.
    • Support and, when assigned, lead multi-year fundraising campaigns by contributing regional strategy, donor engagement, and volunteer leadership.
  • Donor communications and solicitations:
    • Create and follow-up on major donor communications, including personal outreach, phone calls, stewardship reports, and proposals.
    • Partner with PPCW staff to identify, research, and qualify new donor prospects within the assigned region, including individuals with philanthropic capacity who are not currently part of PPCW's existing donor base or established major-gift networks.
